Job ID: | Job-0776 | Job Title: | Storage Architect | location: | New York City | Jobtype: | Permanent | Rate: | $110K - $125K +bonus | Description: | The primary role of the Storage Architect is to optimize and lead the evolution of the firm's storage technologies. This will include maintaining a technical roadmap for this area which is focused on delivering quality services and introducing new technologies to improve the service offering while sustaining or lowering costs. Key Responsibilities include: - Planning, managing and participating in the diagnosis (current state), detailed design (future state) and deployment of storage related processes and technologies including storage, backup/recovery and data management. - Identifying storage related business and technology requirements and validating that design results address them. - Identifying opportunities to drive more value from an organization's existing and planned storage investment through a combination of technical, operational and organizational initiatives. - Demonstrating high degree of hands on storage expertise to develop credibility with stakeholders; ie being recognized as an expert in one more storage vendor's products/areas. - Demonstrating holistic data center technologies knowledge (eg server, network, applications, etc.) to improve end to end solutions. - Leading storage technology evaluation and selection efforts. - Responsible for a technical architecture framework and defines new architectural standards for given platform/technology - Leads and participates in multiple projects/programs concurrently. - Analyzes emerging technologies and determines how it can be used - Budget ownership and management for the storage area - Proactively optimizes the total cost of ownership for the platform/technology. - Ensures that service expectations and cost levels are aligned to the business needs. - Leads the server introduction process for new solutions in the service area - Engages with vendor management to ensure that statements of work are in place for new services. - Define standards for the storage area and ensures adherence - Drives new service development initiatives and/or improvements to the existing services - Participate in meetings and discussions surrounding delivery of storage. - Escalation point for incident and problem management for the storage area. EXPERIENCE: Basic Qualifications: - Minimum of 7+ years of hands on experience with storage and backup I recovery technologies including Hardware & Software (EMC/Network Appliance/Hitachi Data Systems/Sun Storagetek/IBM/or Storageworks) including administration and/or architecture, backup, recovery, and/or data management. - Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree - Overall owner of a service area including strategic leadership and roadmap. - Architecture, budget and value engineering initiatives for a service area. SKILLS: Preferred Skills: - Architecting and implementing storage, backup/recovery and/or data management solutions. - Designing scalable storage and backup/recovery architectures for critical business systems. - Design and deployment of advanced computing and storage technologies, eg server virtualization, storage virtualization, etc. - Exposure to Hardware Platforms (UnixNVintel - HP/IBM etc.) and Operating Systems (Windows/Unix/Linux) Some combination of the following skills: - Designing/deploying Information Management Lifecycle solutions - Data center (including application and data) migration/consolidation. - Datacenter/Server/Network Operational Components (Monitoring, Management, etc.) - Planning future storage capacity - Advanced technical knowledge of storage, tape and backup technologies as well as a broad knowledge in other disciplines/technologies. - Previous experience managing/working in an outsourced IT environment. - Ability to manage vendor relationships - Ability to execute in and with diverse global cultures and resources preferred. - Understanding of project management. - Proven analytical and problem solving abilities. - Strong leadership skills. - Strong verbal and written communication skills.
