Java Server Engineer to work on stuff that really makes a difference: effective learning, connecting readers with authors, bringing next-generation reading and content to new audiences and seeing your innovations come to life for millions of readers, students and educators.

 

Responsibilities:

Design and develop highly reliable, extremely scalable end-to-end cloud computing solutions using resilient and robust code

Contribute to an elite team of world-class engineers seeded with experts from leading think tanks, startups and innovative companies

Work in a progressive and established environment that rewards problem solving, collaboration and innovation

Build and develop sophisticated analytics, blending human and machine intelligence and deep personalization; elegant business objects reflecting complex account and financial dynamics in support of large scale, consumer, institutional and educational content management models

Work with a wide range of content and format transformation technologies and algorithms

 

Requirements:

Java/J2EE expertise and an excellent understanding of and implementing SOA systems using XML Web Services and RESTful Services

Experience building data and web services that support Mobile Devices

Experience with multi-threaded and highly scalable server-side development

Expertise in object/data caching frameworks

Open source development frameworks including Spring

Established background in developing consumer-facing experiences, strong technical acumen, excellent software architecture skills

Great communication skills and a motivation to overachieve

Nice to Haves:

Android SDK experience (especially debugging and GPB)

Have used Mongo and Memcache on large scale project(s)

Previous application internationalization (i18n) and localization experience

Passion for fine-tuning applications, performance optimization and large scale end-to-end deployments

Detailed knowledge of design patterns and experience knowing which to use when

Thrive in a fast paced work environment and get a rush from releasing a new build

You tackle hard problems and hold yourself to high standards because you love awesome software

Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to other software engineers

Attending/presenting at Java meetups is something you enjoy doing
