Rate:   $45 - $50 p/h
 
Description:   
5-6 month contract
 
Responsible for creating and writing various types of user documentation, including how-to guides, references, manuals, cheat sheets, or instructions.
 
Primary responsibilities:
 
1.      Document Organization and Management:
 
•       Requires familiarity and ease with tools like JIRA (an issue tracking tool typical for software development), Confluence (Wiki), SharePoint, BaseCamp, Apache Subversion, and others
•       Ingest current document types
•       Standardize the formats
•       Recommend/define a central document storage repository (either Confluence (Wiki) or Sharepoint)
•       Implement organizational structure in selected repository tools
•       Develop templates and scripts for selected document management tool that can be applied to future documentation
•       Work with stakeholders to formalize the documentation process moving forward
 
2.      Document Authoring:
 
•       Requires strong writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to work closely with the tech teams and the product teams
•       Aggregate and revise current documentation according to new standards
•       Create new documentation for development processes, user training and user guides, online help files, release notes, internal and external presentations, etc.
•       Edit and standardize material prepared by other authors
•       Explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language.
•       Write technical direction on product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications.
•       Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples.
•       Create user documentation for a variety of material, including how-to guides and instruction manuals.
•       Prepare charts, graphs, or forms to go along with rough drafts.
•       Adjust copy as necessary and proofread for grammar and spelling.
•       Follow a life cycle called document development life cycle.
•       Release the document following final approval.
•       Provide updates and different editions as necessary.
•       Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs.
 
Requirements:
 
•       Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
•       Relevant work experience: 3–5 years
•       Relevant work experience in tech or tech-related field: 3 years
•       Desired: Experience with media companies
