Job Title:

Open Systems Database Administrator

Division/Department:

Senior Open Systems Database Administrator

 

Basic Function:

Manage business critical and large Sybase databases.  Architect, deploy and support the database solutions to meet the front and back office application requirements. 

Primary Responsibility:

1.        Diagnose and resolve production problems

2.        Disaster planning/mitigation/recovery

3.      Daily server maintenance

4.      Performance optimization of Dataserver, Databases and Applications

5.      Proactive Maintenance and Monitoring

6.      Capacity and Scalability Planning

7.      Database physical design

8.      Develop stored procedures and triggers

9.      Develop tools to automate the maintenance, monitoring and alert notification of database server.

10.  Mentor and coach junior database administrators

Other Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate tools and new product releases
  • Liaison with product vendors
  • Work with application development groups on designing the database architecture to meet application needs.

Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience with Sybase ASE Database Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Sybase Replication server.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with UNIX shell scripting and/or Perl Scripting.
  • Experience on architecting and implementing high availability solutions.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong background supporting mission critical applications in financial industry.
  • Good working knowledge of Oracle and/or SQL server.

 

Additional Skills

·         Good understanding of full suite of MS office productivity tools including Visio

·         Written and Oral presentation skills

·         Documentation
