Job Description

dynamic individual for a Senior Systems Administrator position within our Systems & Storage Management department. Senior Systems Administrator performs a variety of complex professional duties to deliver and maintain 24x7x365 uptime.  The Senior Administrators should manage the full system lifecycle and ensure the security of systems and infrastructure.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Manage the implementation of application and infrastructure servers in our environment and ensure processes and tools are put in place to effectively manage and operate them throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Implement processes that leverage automation to ensure valid, current backups of all network-attached Linux hosts.
  • Develop or implement tools to monitor and maintain systems.
  • Perform high-level performance tuning of servers at both the operating system level and application server level for optimal performance.
  • Evaluate new server hardware, software products, and LAN/WAN technologies and report on their applicability in terms of the needs of the Company.
  • Play a lead role in working with other technology staff members to troubleshoot complex  problems as they relate to network systems and interoperability with other platforms as appropriate.
  • Participating in the planning, deployment, QC, process flow and training of new customer solutions.
  • Proactively manage systems and tune as necessary while providing guidance on upgrade plans.
  • Configure and upgrade system hardware, including: memory, disk, network interfaces and processors in coordination with capacity planning program.
  • Create and document standard configurations and BCPs to ensure all systems are compliant with both corporate security standards and external audit guidelines.
  • Engage in personal professional development to stay current with the demands of the position; is a positive influence for the effective use of technology and performs additional related duties as assigned by Management.
  • Provide remote assistance where possible.
  • Able to see activities and tasks through to completion.
  • Participates in 24x7 support and on-call rotation as required
Required Skills

SKILLS:

 

  • Complex troubleshooting skills with hardware and software
  • Experience writing scripts in Perl, PHP and shell.
  • High level of initiative and dedication
  • Ability to manage efficiently projects
  • Outstanding customer service and interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and willingness to lend a hand with any project
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely
  • RHCT Redhat Certified Technician

 

DESIRABLE:

  • A degree in computer science or a related field
  • 5 years experience in administering Linux/Unix
  • Ability to read and write complex administrative scripts in Perl
  • MCSA 2003 and A+ certification desired
  • Relational database experience
  • Microsoft systems administration - (Group Policies, Active Directory, etc).
Required Experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 or more years experience as a Unix /Linux Administrator
