Senior Application Architect

 

The Senior Application Architect role provides technical oversight to the entire software engineering team.  This senior level position will be heavily involved in realizing the strategic direction of the company by researching new technologies, refining the architectural direction and building upon and applying our technical best practices.   The Sr. Architect role also includes occasionally participating in the analysis, design and implementation of critical customer and product initiatives.

 

The ideal candidate comes from a pure software background and has a passion for building software in “the right way”.   The candidate should be an excellent communicator not only in written and spoken English, but also in the technical language of design.

 

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·          Expand and refine the software architecture to maximize its potential to meet business and technical requirements

·          Define and institutionalize best practices for use of OOP, Java, J2EE and RDBMS technologies

·          Research, prototype and introduce new technologies into the architecture where appropriate

·          Mentor and guide Senior Engineers to provide them growth opportunities and maximize their effectiveness

·          Conduct an committee approach to architecture decision making that provides the buy in necessary to achieve success

·          Mentor and guide Senior Engineers to provide them growth opportunities and maximize their effectiveness

·          Provide leadership and assistance in the development of technical specifications, writing, optimizing, troubleshooting code, and production of other engineering artifacts as needed.

·          Hands on implementation of more sophisticated components and modules as needed

 

Required Qualifications:

 

MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH A PRODUCT COMPANY

 

·          8+ years experience developing commercial software products

·          6+ years of experience in object-oriented analysis and design

·          4+ years of core Java development experience

·          4+ years as a product or solution Architect

·          4+ years experience with Java-based web application servers

·          4+ year experience with RDBMS and SQL; Oracle a plus

·          Expert knowledge of core Java and J2EE technologies and associated design patterns

·          Experience with common Internet technologies such as XML, Web servers, application servers, security, and various networking protocols.

·          Experience with core web technologies such as HTTP, SOAP, Struts, Spring, .NET, etc.

·          Experience with object persistence frameworks (EJBs, Hibernate, etc.)

·          Experience implementing and communicating technical best practices

·          Strong understanding of Application Architecture related technology trends.

·          Self-driven to produce quality results on time

·          Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

·          Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

·          Experience managing information and communicating using groupware (Wiki, Lotus Notes, Sharepoint, etc)

·          Experience working with offshore resources

·          Candidate would have experience working for a hosted application software provider in B2B environment

·          Masters Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

·          Experience launching new products

·          Experience working in a small company environment

·          Experience in the advertising industry a plus
