* Build / design / deploy new servers
* Maintain a system of over 800 servers and 60 data lines in 10 locations
* Support a user base of over 120 people
* Monitor Linux-based servers for any hardware / software failures and work to correct them
* Assist with day-to-day maintenance of servers including backups, software upgrades, etc.
* Work with numerous Open Source applications to build enterprise level systems (i.e. Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc.)
* Resolve technical and capacity issues on the site
* Manage all aspects of the integrity of the environment, this includes security, monitoring (capacity and performance), change control and software management
* Generate usage reports and documentation
* Research and evaluate new technologies and take a lead role in the recommendation and implementation of both existing and new application software (applications, operating systems, etc.), hardware, and maintenance
* Coordinate resource usage to facilitate process efficiency and project management
* Provide consultation and guidance regarding the planning of future server additions and modifications
* Maintain current patch levels on all systems where applicable
* Responsible for 2nd level support and deployment of UNIX/Linux technology (this includes Production, User Acceptance Test, Disaster Recovery and Development)
* Perform software installations and upgrades to Unix operating systems

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

* experience maintaining and running RedHat Linux servers a must
* experience maintaining unix servers in general (security, software updates, system diagnosis, debugging, tuning, advanced troubleshooting, etc.)
* performing software updates
* knowledge of Cisco IOS, Sun Solaris, and Windows
* ability to build / deploy / tweak / maintain Apache and MySQL setups
* experience building RPM's from source code
* knowledge of networks, colo's, hardware, phones, etc.
* RHCE, puppet and asterisk a plus
* knowledge of what an inode is and the difference between ARP and DNS
* very strong networking skills to include TCP/IP, subnetting, routing
* Unix skills including LDAP, DNS (bind), NFS
* strong perl and bourne shell scripting
* proven experience in network administrations and routing protocols
* strong hardware and software diagnostics skills
* large scale storage experience (NAS / SAN, HSM, backups)
* must have experience using the following commands: vmstat, top, uname, ps, emacs/vi, cvs/svn/git, make, rpm, ping, traceroute
* BS in Computer Science a must
