The WAN Core Engineering is a group within the WAN Engineering organization. The group is responsible for Inter-datacenter core network, the global backbone, and the global Internet peering. The group operate a self managed global MPLS infrastructure and multiple Internet peering collocations around the World. The group is responsible for Design, Engineering, High-touch Implementation, and L3 support of the global infrastructure.

The group consists of two teams of highly skilled Cisco and Juniper engineers spread across multiple geographies

The group works closely with other WAN Engineering groups, Network Architecture group, Network Planning and Design group, Program Management Office, Network Management System group, Capacity Management group, Comms and various user groups on day to day basis

The Head of WAN Core Engineering reports to the Global Head of WAN

General Duties and Tasks: -

- Oversees the performance of Backbone Engineering and the Internet Engineering teams within the group
- Directly responsible for key projects run by the group
- Communicates the charter and the mission of the group to key stakeholders and constituents
- Establishes and publishes clear roadmap for the Core infrastructure
- Establishes and operates a global SLA for the group managed infrastructures and ensures the SLA metrics are being met, collected, monitored, reported, and executed on
- Represents the group for any service forum, problem management, project steering committees, architecture counsel, etc.
- Reports on the infrastructure performance to various stakeholders
- Performs budget forecasting, tracking, rationalization, targets and reporting
- Ensures smooth transition for infrastructure project between all project life cycle stages
- Interface with 3rd parties service providers, hardware vendors, professional services, etc for all technical engagement related to the group infrastructure
- Build a service catalogue and charge-back baseline for all services provided by the team


Qualifications
B. Sc. in Engineering or equivalent degree
10+ years experience in Networking and data communication including a minimum of 2 years in management role in a service provider, carrier or a global organization with self managed backbone
Strong Hands-On experience with MPLS, BGP, Internet IX Peering, OSPF, IS-IS. CCIE-SP is a plus
Previous experience with carrier core network or large self-managed MPLS in architecture or design capacity is a plus
Experience with Market Data, RMDS and Trading infrastructures is a plus
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving mentality and skill
Strong Architectural and Design background
Clear vision that can be articulated, communicated and executed upon internally and externally
Think-like-a-customer mentality
Strong leadership attributes and a bias to goals and results. Full commitment to deadlines, deliverables, SLA and milestones
Full understanding of Infrastructure Life Cycle Management frameworks, ITIL v3 certification is a plus
Superb presentation and communication skills and must be comfortable communicating with senior management leadership team
Proven Project Management skills, PMP/PMI certification is a plus
Comfortable with running a global team in various time zones in a 24x365 mission critical environment that supports multi-billion dollar business
Occasional travel (Domestic and International) is required
