Job Description:

DIRECTOR, CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS

REPORTS TO:              Senior Vice President, Marketing

SUMMARY:                   The Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for developing, implementing and measuring internal and external communications strategies.  The individual must understand the company's vision, values, business plans, and employee value proposition.  Keys to success will be building and nurturing effective working relationships with executive management team, integrating the public relations program with marketing, and generally building  image, reputation and brand.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Insure that key company messages are aligned, disseminated in a timely fashion, and understood
  • Recommend and implement communications strategies, approaches and tools that enhance both internal and external communications
  • Serve as a company spokesperson; prepare other executives for media interviews and accompany those interviews
  • Liaise regularly with key media, both identifying opportunities and responding to requests for information and interviews
  • Manage the company's external PR and related counsel:  New York PR agency, London PR agency, crisis communications company and CSR company
  • Manage internal support staff
  • Media train company spokespeople
  • Manage internal and external crisis communications
  • Review and edit key press releases, announcements, statements, newsletters, and other communications vehicles
  • Oversee PR updates to the company website
  • Identify and evaluate promotional and co-marketing opportunities with compatible brands
  • Evaluate sponsorship opportunities
  • Provide day-to-day PR counsel to Executive VP of Marketing and CEO
  • Formulate and execute system to measure the impact of PR and specific PR tools

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree; minimum 10 years of demonstrated success in corporate communications or an agency.  Airline or travel industry background a plus; understanding of high-end marketplace a must.
  • Familiarity and comfort with all the tools of marketing
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail and planning
  • Ability to juggle a number of programs/projects simultaneously.  Hands-on as well as strategic.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work effectively with others to influence thinking and outcomes
  • Ability to work independently or as a team to achieve results
  • Proven good judgment, flexibility, self-confidence, maturity, refinement and high energy
