POSITION PURPOSE

We are looking for a Lead Java Developer who possesses strong Java and web development skills to lead a team of 3 to 5 developers in a fast pace start-up environment.  The ideal candidate should be comfortable and competent in all roles of the application development process, including project management, functional analysis, documentation, application design, implementation, testing and support.  The candidate must be a confident self-starter with the ability to work well in a team environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead a team of Java and front end developers in the development of medium to large scale, mission critical web base application.

 

  • Provide leadership and guidance in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Provide programming expertise to team members and perform hands on coding to complete the project on time and on budget.
  • Assist in the collection of client requirements, performs analysis, writes program specifications and develops designs.
  • Provide assistance and training to other developers and help them to grow within the company.
  • Performs project management activities such as planning, sizing, and scheduling activities.
  • Responsible for analyzing problems, developing solutions and making decisions that impact projects.
  • Responsible for producing high quality deliverables in a timely fashion.
  • Proactively communicates status reports and issues to manager.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

  • Must have 5+ years in J2EE development of complex web applications. 
  • Must have experience in Java, JSP, Servlets, EJBs,JMS, Spring, Struts SQL/PLSQL, HTML, JavaScript, XML, and Ajax.  Knowledge of Flex is a strong plus.
  • Must have experience using WebSphere RAD, Hibernate, Eclipse, Subversion, Maven/Ant.
  • Strong understating of Websphere 6.0.
  • Experience with Oracle 10g, SQL coding and strong understanding of database transactions.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented approaches in designing, coding, testing and debugging programs in Java.
  • Must have experience leading a team of Junior to Mid level Java and Web Developers.
  • Experience with high performance, scalable solutions.
  • Experience with open source tools and platforms.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to plan own activities and the activities of team members in a way that ensures day-to-day duties are accomplished on time. 
  • Have effective organizational skills.  Keeps files and work area organized.
  • Previous experience in a start-up preferred.
  • Sun Certified preferred.

 

 

Education                

Four-year degree, BS in Computer Science or related engineering field.  Masters Degree preferred.
