Required Skills:
. Proven professional level Windows Sever 2008/2012, Windows desktop Win7/8 System Administration task and workstation support expertise illustrated thru related work experience. Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory.
. Successful experience supporting complex H/W installations, H/W upgrades and relevant maintenance on established base workstations.
. Experience performing system configuration changes.
. Proficient in server virtualization technologies.
. Ability to lead small to medium scale projects that achieve project goals, schedules, and commitments.
. Server backup / backup software experience.
. Proven ability to support a flexible work schedule such as work on-call, overtime, and off-shift support as required. Excellent inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills as illustrated through previous work experience.
• Desired Skills:
. Microsoft Exchange experience.
. SAN technology experience.
. Application & desktop virtualization experience.
. Knowledge of networking and TCP/IP Lan Protocols.
. OS, Server or Network Certifications.
. Knowledge and experience working in an cloud based infrastructure.
. Demonstrated ability to think independently and operate with minimal supervision.
• Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
• The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This SA participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure, and ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies and industry best-practices.
• Linux and Windows systems that support various web and terminal-based applications, Microsoft Active Directory; Microsoft Exchange, operational management (SCOM), configuration management (SCCM), backups, SAN maintenance, and more.
• Responsibilities on these systems include some engineering, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation. The SA will work in a team-based atmosphere and is expected to contribute meaningfully to the instantiation and maintenance of all of the aforementioned systems, alongside teammates of varying skill level and individual backgrounds. This individual should have experience working in a virtualized server environment. Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
• SA Engineering:
. Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
. Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
. Install and configure systems such as supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications.
. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
. Contribute to and maintain system standards.
. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
• Operations and Support:
. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
. Manage user accounts where necessary.
. Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
• Maintenance:
. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
. Upgrade and configure system software per project or operational needs.
. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
