SUMMARIZED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Responsible for the physical realization of the data base system, including physical data base design and implementation, integrity control, maintenance of operational DBMS systems and ensuring satisfactory performance for the DBMS applications and its users.
• The incumbent must demonstrate a high level expertise in one or more platforms including large processors, personal computers, and client server.
• Participate and take lead role when required in the analysis, design, construction, implementation, installation, and post-installation support of client server architecture projects.
• Demonstrates complete expertise of Backup & Recovery procedures in both the mainframe and distributed computing environment. Can design backup and recovery procedures from the ground up for a new database.
• Possesses expert knowledge in the performance monitoring and tuning of multiple DBMSs and in the use of multiple DB monitoring tools. Can recommend DB design changes on multiple platforms to improve performance.
   

 

REQUIREMENTS

• High school and technical school training or equivalent required, college degree preferred.
• Must have working knowledge of Data Base Administration for DB2 on z/OS including DB2 Data Sharing. 
• Seven to nine years experience in information systems with four to six years experience supporting one or more of the following data base management systems: DB2, Sybase, Informix, M204, or IMS. 
• Working knowledge of DB2 v8, SQL & DB2 System Performance monitoring and tuning (SQL reviews, Omegamon, and Visual Explain) a must. 
• Excellent Problem determination & resolution skills. 
• Able to perform installation and maintenance of DB2 and third party vendor software. 
• Ability to create and modify database structures a must. 
• Must have knowledge of Utilities (i.e./Candle/IBM DBMS Utilities).
