Purchasing Specialist

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The incumbent will coordinate with vendors to place and adjust purchase orders to meet forecast and inventory goals, as well as ensure timely and accurate maintenance of purchase order information including production and delivery times, quantities, etc. He or she will also assist in negotiating, administering and maintaining contracts and service agreements.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·         Assist in compilation of reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures accounts payable/receivable.

·         Submit purchase orders to vendors.

·         Review orders for accuracy; questions and resolves inconsistencies.

·         Develop and assist with implementation of processes for efficiency improvements.

·         Review open requisitions and take appropriate action to ensure that approved items requested are ordered on a timely basis.

·         Assist order entry department with order processing issues.

·         Identify qualified domestic and international sources of supply for assigned products.

·         Maintain and update material master records.

·         Maintain vendor contact information to attain timely product and pricing information.

·         Communicate pertinent information regarding products and/or pricing to senior purchasing specialists or managers.

·         Assist in managing product inventory levels and maintaining price lists.

·         Utilize vendor and supplier agreements to effectively manage orders, returns, credits and required reporting.

·         Participate in the development of departmental procedures and practices.

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

·         Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people, vendors and third party contractors

·         Proven knowledge of product and service purchasing policies and practices

·         Proven knowledge of legal or contractual terminology

·         Demonstrated ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt quickly to changes

·         Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

 

 

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

 

·         JDE

·         Microsoft Excel

·         Microsoft Powerpoint

·         Microsoft Word

 

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

·         B.A. Degree in MIS, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent discipline

·         0-3 years experience in Purchasing role

·         Works under broad supervision
