TITLE: Network Engineer
EXPERIENCE: Technical Requirements: Cisco 2600, 3600, 7500 series
routers. Cisco 4000, 6000 series switches. Cisco 9500 SAN switches.
Routing Protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP. Ciscoworks. Checkpoint
Firewall-1 NG. Real Secure IDS. Nortel Connectivity 2700 VPN.
Websense Internet Content Filter. Visual Networks Probes and Software.
Win 2K, Win 2K3 server. Cisco SAN switches and related equipment. IP
telephony, including end stations, gateways, etc. General Requirements:
Exceptionally strong technical and analytical skills. Proficient in LAN
/ WAN / Internet design as well as implementation skills. Must work
well with others, be customer focused, a team player and have excellent
communication skills. Must be a forward thinker, always looking to
improve existing network situations and provide relevant solutions.
Must have exceptional knowledge of all Cisco hardware and software,
Internet security hardware and software as well as voice / data
integration. Must be willing to work some weekends and late nights to
support upgrades, changes, etc. Must be able to lift large and heavy
packages, usually over 50 lbs. Must be able to work under pressure.
Certification Requirements: CCIE & MCSE preferred, but not required.
Certifications: CCNA, CCDA, CCSA.
DESCRIPTION: General Responsibilities: Responsible for implementation
of
network hardware and software upgrades and rollouts, as well as
day-to-day network operational support. Responsible for ensuring the
improvement of network performance at all North American office
locations. Responsible for ensuring the data integrity for all systems
users by overseeing the monitoring and troubleshooting of the LAN and
WAN systems. Reponsible for overseeing monitoring and troubleshooting
of the LAN / WAN & Internet systems. Implement new network design
solutions or ideas proposed by the Architecture team to increase system
performance, reduce costs or increase productivity for the Business
groups within SMBC. Responsible for the maintenance and daily
operations of many security systems in North America from external
vulnerabilities in accordance with Security Dept. policies.
Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for monitoring the Local and
Wide Area networks for performance problems through the use of probes,
analyzers, and network management software. Responsible for the
escalation of problems through vendor channels to achieve problem
resolution.
Configure and install all new WAN and LAN network equipment.
Participate in network design discussions and participate in the
implementation of WAN and LAN network upgrades and enhancements.
Compile network documentation and ensure its installation in a
centralized database. Responsible for ensuring that all Sumitomo Bank
locations have the proper maintenance coverage for the critical network
hardware and software. Responsible for overseeing the installation and
configuration of all *new* LAN / WAN / Internet hardware and software
based on Architecture Committee and business requirements. Basic SAN
expertise, including but not limited to Cisco MDS environments.
Responsible for implementing or overseeing the implementation of
security configurations on North American routers, Firewall, etc. in
accordance with Security Dept. policies. Responsible for ensuring that
the North American Local and Wide Area networks are monitored for
performance problems through the use of probes, analyzers, and network
management software. Responsible for ensuring vendor escalation
procedures are properly followed to achieve problem resolution.
Responsible for ensuring that business management is kept aware of
proposed network changes to ensure changes do not impact business group
access to systems with the use of internal tracking and alerting
databases, i.e., Change Management, Maintenance Logs, Heat Tickets,
Service Request, and Soar database request.
All done within a timely manner. Provide technical assistance to
several internal departments which includes management when needed,
example, Customer Service Desk, Voice Telcom Group, System
Administrators, Application Support, RMSD, and Bank Subsidiaries.
Overall responsibility for North American capacity planning with respect
to network infrastructure (i.e., Cabinets, power, cabling, etc.)
Provide technical assistance and support to Business Recovery planning
and testing. Responsible for ensuring that network documentation is
accurate, complete, and posted in a centralized database. Responsible
for providing technical guidance to less-Senior engineers and help
enhance their knowledge to sufficiently implement their designated
tasks.
