 Windows Administrator Norfolk, VA Salary $50000 - $60000 +great benefits

 

As our applications are available 24 x 7 x 365, this position will rotate through a 24x7 on-call assignment and occasional off-hour support is necessary.  This position is located in our Norfolk office.  Occasional travel to Boston, New York, and our regional offices is necessary, but infrequent.

 

Responsibilities:

The individual will be a member of the Systems Administration team responsible for providing professional level knowledge, skills, and experience administering and providing support for WINDOWS servers.  Among systems to be administered are: WINDOWS 2003 Active Directory Domain controllers, WINDOWS 2003 File/Print  servers, Citrix servers, infrastructure servers supporting DBMS, SAP, web, and network applications. 

 

Key tasks include:

·        Day to day hardware (server and storage) and software support of the Wintel and NetWare environment including break/fix, performance troubleshooting, and supporting application troubleshooting.

·        Performing systems administration of devices and enterprise software

·        File system management

·        Bug fix diagnosis and reporting,

·        Account management,

·        Group Policy deployments,

·        Backup/and recovery (setup, testing, implementation)

·        Server security management.

·        Install new software, utilities, and monitoring tools as required. Resolve system problems; apply patch releases and security enhancements as required.

·        Identifying opportunities and implementing solutions to streamline or eliminate manual server tasks

·        Identifying areas or processes to increase server reliability and performance. This includes supporting hardware and software rollouts directed by our architecture and design groups.

·        Systems monitoring, systems diagnosis, systems configuration, and performance tuning to optimize effectiveness of memory utilization, disk management and OS kernel tuning to maximize CPU efficiency

 

In this role, the individual will be working closely with teams within Enterprise Services such as Network Services, Platform Services, and Application Support.  The individual should:

·        Interface effectively with others to foster a cooperative, team based approach to problem resolution and/or project based work.

·        Effectively communicate to all levels to technical and non-technical staff members

·        Be flexible, have high energy, with the ability to handle multiple demands in a fast paced environment.

·        Contribute to other key department projects including: standards, process improvement, active problem reduction, and metrics.

 

Work Experience Required:

·        Previous experience with a 24 x 7 Data Center Operations at a large (800+ server) firm

·        A minimum of 3 years of related business and hands-on technical experience in Wintel (W2K or later, Active Directory) and NetWare (NetWare, NetWare Directory Services, NDPS) Systems Administration and support. 

·        Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, administering and maintaining WINDOWS 2000/2003 servers in a large multi location environment.

·        Demonstrated experience with WINDOWS internals, disk file systems, data communications, and TCP/IP.

·        Working experience administrating and implementing WINDOWS 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure and Active Directory Group Policy. In-depth knowledge of WINDOWS, Unix and network security

·        Use of Enterprise Management tools

·        Exposure to enterprise software such as: Altiris, TSM, OpsWare, HPOV, Symantec AntiVirus, Veritas Clustering

·        Experience working with enterprise storage (NAS and SANs) is a plus

 

Systems Administration core knowledge must include:

·        OS and network software configuration include management, backup, and disk utilities

·        Printing and spooling subsystems including: spooling daemons, queues, adding printers, local and remote printing, resolving printing problems.  Working knowledge of NDPS is highly desired.

·        WINDOWS 2000/2003/Active Directory  troubleshooting including: booting sequence, basic file system checking, initialization/startup command flows, shutdown and halt, automatic reboot, repair disk, local and

·        Server Clustering is a plus;

·        Citrix Metaframe support is a plus.
