Contribute to the configuration and customization of distributed agents (Micromuse, C-COR, Acterna) and scripts for monitoring UNIX systems, Administrative systems, network, and database devices, application logs, Syslog, etc. Work closely with Digital, UNIX, network, database, and Novell support groups, and with business application groups, to understand and prioritize their requirements for the effective implementation of monitoring solutions. Understand API logic to develop interfaces to support streamlined integration across various platforms. Develop tools, interfaces, or wrappers to support integration across multiple management interfaces.
Develop the logic, scripts, and programs for the distributed agents and probes that collect, process, and forward events to the centralized monitoring and reporting system. While performing primary duty, respond to pages within 15 minutes 100% of time.
Identify problems and correct them as soon as possible to restore full service
Coordinate resolution with infrastructure and application support groups and implement changes to prevent problem recurrence. Participate in supporting user requests and daily maintenance duties. Assist with all tasks delegated to the ESM engineering team.
Technical Skill and Qualifications: PREFERED: BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
REQUIRED: Highly Desirable 2 or more: Netcool (Omnibus, Impact. Reporter, Precision, ISM, SSM, Webtop), C-COR, Sitescope, Oracle, Remedy.
Experience in 3 or more of these environments a plus: UNIX (Solaris 2.6,8,10; AIX 5.3, SUSE Linux 9.x),VERITAS VCS, VERITAS VM, Microsoft NT, Novell, Web Logic 5/6/7/8, Oracle, Sybase, network (IP), LDAP, NIS+, DNS, Web firewalls, fireproofs, load balancers, global load balancers, portals. DESIRABLE: Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP and SNMP Management Protocols. Five+ years experience in varied technical positions (requires broad technical IS knowledge at a senior level), including development experience implementing systems Infrastructure development/support preferred. High level of interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills. High level of interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills. Direct experience in System & Network Management Systems Using Micromuse Netcool Omnibus, Netcool Impact, Netcool WebTop, Netcool SSM, Netcool ISM, Netcool Reporter, Support Magic or Remedy and UNIX, Micromuse SSM administration, troubleshooting, and customization. Experience in Windows NT, Windows 2000, Internet Information Server, SQL Server and Oracle Databases (desired). Expertise in Netcool (or similar tool) troubleshooting and performance tuning, writing stored procedures and triggers (desired). UNIX sys-admin skills are required. Interpersonal skills must be well developed. Documentation, verbal, and presentation skills must be demonstrated. Programming skills must be demonstrable, and must include one of more of the following: Advanced scripting (PERL/BOURNE/KORN), C programming
