POSITION PURPOSE

This position manages day-to-day activities of the Accounting department to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports including internal and external monthly and quarterly financial statements and annual audits.

This position is responsible for a variety of the accounting and finance duties and responsibilities including; Accounting for investments, loans, shares, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, FAS 133, foreign currencies, etc.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE

This position reports to the Vice President - Finance and has a staff of 3 - 5 direct reports in the Accounting department.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ø       Achieve accurate and timely preparation, reconciliation, and dissemination of daily/monthly closings, monthly/quarterly financial statements, and annual audited financial statements

Ø       Maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

 

Ø       Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

 

Ø        

 

Ø       In partnership with senior management and department managers coordinate the preparation of the annual budget and monitor its implementation and performance.   

 

Ø       Comply with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.

 

Ø       Prepare reports and analysis that summarize the company's business activities and financial position based on actual and forecasted operations.

 

Ø       Establish and maintain systems and internal controls which ensure the integrity of systems, processes and data.

 

Ø       Coordinate the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process.

 

Ø       Prepare accurate financial statements.

 

Ø       Analyze financial results and communicate trends and other observations to senior management.

 

Ø       Manage and oversee all disbursements, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of  accounts payable, payroll processing, corporate and payroll taxes.

 

Ø       Closely manage and monitor cash flow.

 

Ø       Establish and maintain internal control system to ensure the integrity of data and ensure accurate record keeping.

 

Ø       Manage the daily activities of the Accounting staff.   Monitor, coach, evaluate, motivate and develop direct reports and create a climate where teamwork can flourish Prepare staff evaluations on time and Individual Development Plans.  Identify training needs of the department and plan, coordinate and schedule staff training opportunities.



DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

An incumbent in this position must possess a thorough knowledge of Accounting and Corporate Finance with proven analytical, problem-solving and management skills as well as the ability to fulfill the accountabilities described in this document. Work assignments require the use of independent judgment on financial issues that are complex, interpretive and evaluative in nature.

 

A typical way of obtaining the requisite knowledge and skills is graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in finance, accounting or business administration. Advanced education (MBA, MS in Finance, Economics, or Accounting, or other quantitative discipline) or CPA preferred. 5-7 years of related Controller experience (preferably at a financial institution),  strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, investment accounting and overall banking knowledge as well as excellent oral and written communication and computer skills, professional appearance and a willingness to work flexible hours required. Exposure to working with foreign currencies and currency hedging highly desirable.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
