(VP level) Operations Project Manager
Base to $150K – Total Comp to $195K
Ideal candidate comes from a large asset manager or hedge fund and wants an entrepreneurial private equity firm
The Operations group is responsible for all post trade execution processing including: trade confirmation, settlements, cash reconciliations, data integrity (pricing, ratings, security setups). This role requires a candidate who is able and willing to remain hands on in project management with a strong background in asset management and alternative investments.
Position Responsibilities:
Project Management
· Lead all process/workflow improvement projects involving the Operations Group and IT
· Lead all system upgrade/replacement planning and project execution from Operations perspective
· Document functional specifications for systems and workflow related changes
· Execute/coordinate testing of all internal and external systems upgrades or enhancements including developing testing strategies and modifications to procedures that would be impacted by newer version
Subject Matter Expertise
· Experience in at least one of the following areas: trade settlements, corporate actions, cash reconciliations, data management, performance.
· Expertise in bankloans, derivatives and other fixed income securities required
· Act as the primary expert in all systems used by operations; leverage this knowledge to assist in researching issues, designing workflow for new products and training new employees
· Demonstrate fund accounting/securities accounting expertise
Experience and Skills Required:
- BS or BA in Finance, Accounting or related discipline, MBA a plus
- Minimum of five years of investment management operations experience
- Strong fixed-income product knowledge, particularly bank loans, CLO’s, CDO’s variable rates securities
- Hedge fund or private equity experience is a plus
Industry Awareness
· Evaluate other systems available in the market and provide comprehensive comparative analysis
· Be aware of industry initiatives and upcoming standards and apply them to the Ares organization.

- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel – knowledge of formulae a must (e.g.
- “vlookup”)
- Proficient in Microsoft Powerpoint, Visio
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Access or other databases a plus
