 Job Title: Accounting Manager

Department: Accounting

Reports To: VP Finance

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Summary: Plans and directs accounting activities within a finance department or division of an organization by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate supervisors.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (includes the following, but not limited to.)

 

o        Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, and accounting.

o        Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.

o       Monthly/Quarterly GL closing.

o        Preparation of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.

o       Preparation and /or review of the Annual & Quarterly STAT financial statements for P&C insurance companies.

o       Account roll forward preparation for various GL accounts as required by the outside auditors.

o       Reconciliation of monthly bank statements and preparation of required journal entries to adjust account balances.

o        Reconciliation of inter-company account balances, analysis of Premium Tax and assessment accounts.

o        Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.

o        Reviews financial statements with management personnel.

Education and/or Experience:                                               

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  

Language Skills:                                            

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:                                                  

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability:                                                     

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:                                           

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software.
