VP Technology Consulting, Brooklyn NY, Base to 160k Total Comp $200k

Ideally someone out of a consulting firm who understands how to run a
consulting practice. There is some travel involved, not more than 20%
nationally. Candidate must have a graduate degree or 15+ years
experience.

VP - Technology Consulting
Brooklyn, NY

In 2007, we will deliver consulting services of $6MM. These services are
being delivered by Product Development staff. We are planning to create
a new group, reporting to the Chief Product Officer, that would focus
exclusively on generating and delivering profitable consulting work in
three categories:
. Engagements that are immediately productizable and on strategy
. Engagements that are productizable in the future and on strategy
. Engagements not productizable, but directly in support of our
existing products (eg, data integration).

Examples of current engagements include: a K-12 reporting system; a data
bridge transferring enrolment data nightly from a large district; and an
iPod-based experimental system to deliver targeted phonics videos to
at-risk students based on assessment data. Currently, we are turning
down or delaying work due to lack of capacity.

The VP, Consulting will lead the creation of a new consulting unit. Some
existing Product staff may transfer to Consulting; others will need to
be hired. This individual will have the opportunity to build a new unit,
define team and process structures, and own a high demand department as
it grows into a new business serving some of the largest and most
influential school districts in the country.

Responsibilities:
- P&L responsibility for the consulting group: agreeing a budget,
monthly reporting, monitoring utilization, delivering against revenue
and profit targets
- Overseeing all operations of the consulting group day-to-day
- Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and retaining quality
consultants providing the correct skill mix to meet demand
- Driving new and repeat business sales, managing the pipeline,
proposal writing, closing deals (often with the help of the Wireless
Generation sales force)
- Consistently delivering exceptional customer service
- Ensuring timely, on budget, and high quality delivery of
engagements
- Actively managing and mentoring team of software engineers,
project managers, and other full-time and contract employees
- Where appropriate, arranging outsourcing and offshoring
contracts as appropriate (WG currently has a team of 12 engineers
working on product and services in New Delhi)


Required Skills:
Requirements:
- A passion for technology and sales as well as an overall
excitement for learning
- 8+ years of experience in a technology consulting firm
- Strong managerial background and experience
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing
environment
- Strong communication (including presenting and writing),
organizational and problem-solving skills are essential
- Experience in information management; specific knowledge of data
warehouses and data integration would be ideal but not necessary
- Bachelors degree or advanced degree
