FUNCTIONAL TITLE: Enterprise Backup Engineer
SALARY: $110-120K

LOCATION: NYC


POSITION OVERVIEW/MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
Technical hands-on storage engineer whose responsibilities include the
engineering, management and support of regional distributed Storage Area
Network environment using EMC, NetApp and other storage related
technology. This Storage engineer must possess an understanding of a
complex combination of various technologies and operating systems and
must be able to design AND implement the SAN/NAS solutions. Occasional
international travel to EMEA and APAC. Some third tier 7x24 production
support is also required.

Responsibilities

Candidates should have strong communication skills (both written and
verbal).

* Design, establish, and manage SAN/NAS storage and networking
resources
(e.g. LUN masking, zoning, storage array configuration changes)
* Participate in design, research and development effort leading
to
improvements to the existing production storage environment
* Design, establish, and manage SAN/NAS reporting, monitoring and
management infrastructure.
* Participate in Storage Engineering strategic planning sessions
* Contribute to long range planning and budget discussions
* Train and mentor Storage Operations staff
* Level-3 support for 24x7 operations


REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS & WORK EXPERIENCE

Requirements
* Bachelor's degree is required with preferred discipline in
Engineering
or Computer Science area.
* Minimum of 5 years experience with storage engineering
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong analytical, decision-making, problem solving and
multi-tasking
skills.
* Interpersonal Skills
o Ability to closely interact with the customer service level II
technicians, development and business units to gather and implement
business requirements
o Ability to work effectively independently and / or in a team
environment
* Ability to work independently on complex tasks with minimal
technical
and management guidance
* Ability to learn new platforms and technologies and apply this
knowledge to our business needs
* Project management experience including the following -
Project Planning -- Work plan, scheduling and prioritization Risk
Management -- Analyze, minimize Tactical -- Set objectives, drive issues
to resolution, scope management Status Reporting -- Ability to
multi-task and track status on several projects at once. Project
documentation.

Skills
* Expert in SAN Management
o Must be able to design, establish, and manage SAN/NAS
infrastructures.
o Must be able to provision storage and SAN resources, diagnose
application connectivity and performance issues, and capacity plan the
infrastructure
* Network Appliance technology expert, including strong knowledge
of FAS
platform and OnTAP 7G.
o Must possess strong working knowledge pertinent protocols, i.e.
CIFS,
NFS, FCP, iSCSI
o Must possess strong working knowledge of critical technologies,
e.g.,
Snapshot/Restore, SnapMirror, SnapVault, FlexClone, SnapLock, SnapVault,
Multistore, FlexShare, SnapDrive, Data Fabric Manager
o Desirable skills include working knowledge of SnapManager for
Exchange, SnapManager for SQL, SnapManager for Oracle
o Must be able to design and establish filer environment and
provide
level-3 platform and software support for related technologies
* Experienced in EMC technologies
o Should possess working knowledge of EMC Symmetrix/DMX and
CLARiiON
hardware platforms including pertinent management platforms
o Should possess working knowledge of data protection
technologies, i.e.
Powerpath, TimeFinder, SRDF, SnapView, MirrorView
o Knowledge of EMC Centera desirable, including knowledge of
CenteraView, Centera Seek and Chargeback, and CAS API
o Should possess good working knowledge of EMC management
platforms,
e.g. ControlCenter (including StorageScope), Navisphere, SymCLI,
NaviCLI, SymOptimizer, Connectrix Manager
* Must possess strong SAN switching skills
o Must possess strong working knowledge of director-class switches
o Capable of designing, establishing, and managing SAN topologies
(ISLs,
zoning, DWDM, etc.)
* Good working knowledge of various operating systems, i.e.
Solaris,
Linux, Windows, VMware preferred
* Good working knowledge of Veritas NetBackup preferred
* Strong scripting skills desirable (Ksh, Perl, VB, etc.)
* Good working knowledge of latest RDBMS desirable (MS SQL,
Oracle, Sybase).
