Posting Job Description | Essential Job Function Install, configure, and maintain Sun Solaris UNIX 8, 9, and 10 running Common Desktop Environment (CDE), and Gnome. Install and configure Apache, Open Secure Shell (SSH), Open Secure Socket Layer (SSL), as well as additional modules or software per customer*s request. Install, configure, and maintain Tarantella software. Administer hardware platforms to include but not limited to: E220, E250, E420, E450, V480, V880, D1000, 3510 SAN unit. Utilize the VI Editor efficiently * (this is a mandatory requirement). Read and decipher the various system log files on a UNIX server platform. Provide Sunray Thin Client setup, administration and support. Provide Common Desktop Environment (CDE) and customization as needed. Install, configure and maintain ISC Bind 8.x and 9.x Domain Name Servers. Update and maintain (DNS) database records and perform server maintenance. Remotely administer UNIX servers from a Linux or Windows workstation using secure methods such as Secure Shell, Putty, and Exceed. Perform the following tasks when needed: Backup, clone, and restore all Solaris Unix systems using system specific methods and software such as, UNIX file server (UFS) dump, tape archive (TAR), and Legato Networker. Obtain and apply software, hardware, and security related patches to all Operating Systems in use when required. Administration of Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas File System. Knowledge of Administration of NFS, AutoFS and NIS under Solaris Environments Jumpstart installations for Solaris. Must have hands on skills to Upgrade Solaris OS and Veritas VM / FS. Expert on SUN Servers such as E12K , E15K and other Enterprise class servers. Must have knowledge of Veritas, Sun and other storage. Must be experienced with SUN clusters and configuration of clusters as well as domains Must have excellent customer service skills. Install and administer Web application servers, assist with the system deployment in development, test and production environments. Manage clustering, load balancing of application server components. Optimize the performance by adjusting the server settings. Start and stop the server components as and when needed. Monitor application server logs; administer the application server metadata repository. Develop and maintain standards, procedures and methodologies for effective operation, access, control, backup and recovery of all application servers. Provide guidance to application developers concerning optimal design and implementation of systems deployed to Web Servers. Individual must possess systems level knowledge of Micromuse's Netcool product suite.
Job Requirements/Qualifications Must have strong application server administration skills, and familiarity with one or more of the following web server environments WebLogic, Websphere, SunOne Web server. Must have familiarity and experience with systems development in a J2EE environment. Ability to troubleshoot Web server configuration, deployment and performance issues. The individual must possess written and verbal communications skills to document their work and interrelate with peers/users to clarify requirements, resolve problems, and train others as necessary. Interaction with vendor technical staffs is required and considered crucial to the position. Must possess the capability to analyze business and/or technical needs and the design/development of technical solutions to meet these needs. The individual must be capable of estimating and planning their work efforts in a self-directed manner. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in related discipline with 5+ years of professional experience. Minimum of 5 years of Sun / UNIX systems administration experience. Experience in shell scripting languages: csh, bourne, ksh, and perl. Experience with the Veritas Suite of Products (3 years minimum). Experience in configuration and administration of failover over technologies. Experience in NIS, NFS, automount. Experience in UNIX backup and restore. Tape library (ATL) administration. Experience in UNIX disk and network management. Experience in UNIX process management and monitoring. Experience in UNIX system accounting and security. Checkpoint FW/1 a plus. Experience in Firewall and Internet technologies. Java experience a plus. Experience in RDBMS installation and administration. Understanding of UNIX performance tuning and related utilities. Understanding of TCP/IP protocol and its utilities. Understanding of the UNIX file system. Familiarity with Sun UNIX hardware configuration and management. Familiarity with the X environment and Thin-clients (X-terminals). Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts. Performed capacity planning / performance analysis functions. Performed mentoring of junior and/or less experienced personnel. Performed project presentations. Customer relationship skill sets. Performed System Design functions. Create network diagrams. Ability to be a team leader in a highly technical real-time environment. On-call duty required. After hour and weekend work as required
