Unix/LINUX engineer/Admin 95k base plus bonus NYC
DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent UNIX Engineer will participate in the design, installation, maintenance and support of the development, test, q/a and production UNIX server infrastructure, including but not limited to the operating system, hardware and related support applications. The individual is expected to participate in troubleshooting complex technical support issues as part of an energetic, enthusiastic and highly experienced/motivated team of professional support engineers. The individual will also be expected to participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and prototyping of new solutions as they pertain to day to day operations and/or as a project deliverable.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Participate in day to day operational activities related to UNIX/SOLARIS/LINUX infrastructure installation, integration, maintenance and support.
· Manage and support production internet infrastructure.
· Demonstrate knowledge of supporting and administering a complex and rapidly growing Solaris/Linux server environment and related components.
· Provide support to Application Product Managers and developers.
· Participate in various projects related to design and implementation of new and/or existing infrastructure.
· Troubleshoot all production environment issues.
· Work with vendors to identify and implement 3rd party solutions
· Participate simultaneously in day to day responsibilities while completing project oriented deliverables.
· Demonstrate skill at clearly and concisely communicating detailed information regarding the environment with co-workers, senior management, and vendors.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Support production application environments. · Administer and support all aspects of the EMC SAN environment. · Administer and support all aspects of the Solaris/Linux server environment including operating systems and SPARC/x86 servers. · Manage and maintain in-house developed and 3rd party monitoring tools. · Manage production application distribution system. TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: · All aspects of UNIX server environment including Solaris 8 and 10 on SPARC and x86, Red Hat Linux 3 and 4 32 and 64 bit.. · EMC Symmetrix, Celera, Clariion, SUN 6120/3510/3511 storage arrays, SAN fabric switches. · Veritas Netbackup, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Volume Manager, Solstice Disk Suite. · , Proftp, TCP-Wrappers, FTP Proxy, Tiny Proxy, Firewall Toolkit (FWTK) · SUN/HP Disk/memory/cpu hands-on skills · StorageTek Tape Libraries · Jumpstart, Kickstart, PXEBoot · ILO, ALOM, · Perl, Borne/Korn/C Shell scripting · Knowledge of C/C++ , Python, HTML/CGI programming, Make, Source code compilation a plus · Sybase database support, Solaris internals, Solaris performance and tuning concepts a plus |
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· B.S. Degree in Computer Science/Mathematics or equivalent technical discipline. · 5+ years experience in UNIX Engineering role · Works under direct supervision. | |
