Job Description

The MQ Series Administrator will manage the MQ Series messaging environment across multiple environments. Job responsibilities will include installation, configuration and maintenance of MQ Series 5.3; Installation of patches and CSDs, troubleshoot daily issues such as Channel Connection problems across multiple firewalls, interact with network staff to resolve connectivity issues: Interact with application staff to resolve messaging issues and be able to trace messages from origin to destination; define various MQ Objects; and set up MQ monitoring utilizing BMC patrol. Other responsibilities will include at least one of the following; ETL Administration (Sunopsis, Pervasive Data Integrator, WBI), Cognos or Websphere Admin. Training will be provided for the right candidate. The successful candidate must be a self motivated individual that works well in groups as well as independently and requires little direction to achieve results. In addition, the candidate must have a high level of motivation in learning new middleware technologies such as Websphere, Sunopsis ETL, Pervasive Data Integrator, Cognos ReportNet and/or BMC Patrol.

Job Qualifications:

A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college and three years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience using mainframe, mini- or micro-computer technology in computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of experience as described in "1" above; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of experience as described in "1" above; or 4. Education and experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must possess at least three years of experience as described in "1" above, including the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.  

Essential Skills:

The candidate must have proven experience with VIQ Series 5.3 Admin running on AIX and Windows platforms. A basic understanding of admin functions in both Windows and AIX environments, including basic shell scripting. Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Knowledge of one or more of the following technologies is highly desirable: Cognos ReportNet, Websphere 5.1, Unix Shell Scripting, Sunopsis ELT, or Pervasive Data Integrator. Any knowledge of these products would be considered a big plus.

Contribute to the stability and extensibility of our existing software—a consumer and business facing web presence, as well as an automated information interchange layer for acquiring and distributing data—while adding exciting new features as part of an agile development process. We work with short milestones, iterative improvements, and a gusto for refactoring.  A successful candidate will have demonstrable success creating testable, clear, reliable code in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Delivers extensible, testable code toward improvements and new features for an existing J2EE application as part of weekly milestones and an iterative development plan
  • Voracious appetite for absorbing and applying the cutting edge to solving problems
  • Experience developing a project made more successful with full coverage unit tests
  • Someone who can both mentor and learn from the team in the same day
  • Has fun collaborating with other technologists
  • Confident written and verbal communication skill


Experience:

  • 8 or more years programming experience  (experienced people)
  • Good understanding of application servers (Web Logic, Web Sphere or Oracle 10gAS)
  • Excellent understanding and experience with JAVA technologies including some of the following J2EE APIs JDBC, JSP custom tags, Servlet API, EJB's, Jars, Ears, Deployment Descriptors, Message Queuing (JMS), ANT, JUNIT, open source frameworks like Spring or Hibernate, Apache Struts 4, Design Patterns, Frameworks, Ability to re-factor code to extract common patterns (GoF must), Database, XML, XSD and other XML technologies, Strong Agile skills
  • Experience in XML, XSL, HTML technologies including working experience in online transactional based systems
  • Basic concepts of relational database systems
  • Good understanding of algorithms and ability to transform design into code
  • 3-tier web application development (J2EE would be great)
  • Server-side web services a plus
  • Source control, build tools, automated deployment, and IDE
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented approaches in designing, coding, testing and debugging programs in Java or C++
  • Experience with multiple operating systems and languages is mandatory
  • Experience with high performance, scalable engineering is mandatory
  • Experience with open source tools and platforms is mandatory
