Technical Specialist- Overmoulding

Description:    Fully knowledgeable for the overmoulding process from understanding / application of international overmoulding technical specifications / materials to drawing reviews, flow simulations, tool design, process design and into series production. Demonstrates excellent trouble-shooting skill sets. The position requires very specific experience in all things plastic overmoulding and associated automation. 

He/she leverages suppliers from the senior leadership to the shop floor personnel in the effective attainment of world class overmoulding processes which launch well and are sustainable in series production. 

· Think / Act Strategically – Uses analytical smarts along with creative thinking for supplier development plans to prevent problems and as needed to solve difficult technical overmoulding problems. He/she sees the big picture in understanding overmoulding processes while considering business needs and supplier situations when making plans / decisions. 

· Builds Organizational Capability – Has the ability to assess overmoulding suppliers for tool design, and process capabilities with ultimate gap closure plans to address weaknesses not only for targeted overmoulding suppliers, but also individual SDEs to leverage their learning curves along side the SME. Raises the supplier’s performance bar by creating, promoting and sustaining a performance culture. 

· Get Results - Delivers on-time, on-quality performance at every stage from prototype samples to off-tool samples through the APQP phases by the completion of a comprehensive supplier development plan customized for each supplier’s deficiencies followed by effective deployment of the “plan”. 

· Subject-Matter Expert – Considered the go to person for the overmoulding commodity with the ability to quickly gain and/or effective utilize tools / methods in getting results. 

· Management Support – Coordinates SDE global overmoulding supply base as assigned including crisis management situations and demonstrates leadership traits / skills in lead problem resolution. 

· Other Key Responsibilities – 
o Support systemic improvement across the global overmoulding supply base. 
o Leads the development / advancement of the SDE Global Commodity Cultivation Team toolbox policies, procedures and deployment for the overmoulding commodity. 
o This position will require frequent visits and stays to assigned overmoulding supplier locations globally for pre-sourcing evaluations, APQP-PPAP assessments / problem resolution and lead crisis management situations. 
o Leads / supports Purchasing Overmoulding Commodity in establishing a sound strategy sourcing via professional, thorough recommendations in guiding the correct strategy. 
o Participates in Quality, Company Staff and Product Line meetings as requested representing SDE for overmoulding specific discussions from pre-sourcing technical reviews, sourcing decisions and problem resolutions. 

· Technical Skills / Knowledge / Hands-On Experience 
- A full working knowledge for overmoulding process development from drawing assessment, tool design, process design and qualification. Demonstrated results through hands-on experience from the shop floor to the boardroom. 
- Able to take difficult problems and boil-it down to the key, right steps to take for resolution. 

· People Skills 
- The ability to influence others in doing what at first may seem unnatural or out of their comfort zone as the status quo appears to be okay. Must be able to demonstrate the value-add proposition in terms of financial gain. 
· Manufacturing Process Experience. 
- Truly the subject matter expert of overmoulding design / manufacturing for overmoulding processes along with experience of automated ion processes 

· Knowledge/ Experience with the following disciplines: 
- Technical problem solving, lean manufacturing, worldwide overmoulding technical specifications, international standards and state-of-the-art overmoulding processes. 
· Excellent Communication Skills 
- Efficient PC computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) 
- Very good verbal and written communication skill sets 
- Ability to alternate from the lead to the team member role as situations warrant 
- Demonstrated presentation skills in convinces others to adopt ideas and change 
· Good Leadership / Motivation Skills 
- Ability to achieve continuous improvement from supplier/internal 
- Ability to orientate and train new employees 
- Able to prioritize strategic/tactical initiatives and balance with available group resources 
- Capability to lead cross functional multi-disciplined teams 

Educational: Bachelor degree within Mechanical / Industrial Engineering, required. MBA or relevant post-graduate studies preferred. 

Experience: Minimum 20+ years experience from a overmoulding environment, in a technical engineering manufacturing role. Automotive supply base experience desired. Previous group-leader / supervision/ management experience preferred. Solid, world class overmoulding process and tooling experience is a must.
