He/she will be expected to participate in the formation of IT policies and procedures by making appropriate recommendations for improvements and/or additions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the IT services and operations to support the business.This position requires an individual to roll up his/her sleeves and contribute while leading the IT function within the organization. The ideal candidate must be able to provide high level analysis and consulting services to all internal clients. This person will be a trusted advisor to management and the IT business function throughout the organization. This position will report to the CFO – North America on a day to day basis but will ultimately report to the Group CTO in the UK for all strategic technology matters.
Responsibilities:
Oversees all technology for the organization. Provides technology vision and leadership to create a transformational change in business performance. Provides guidance and counseling to senior management with respect to technology initiatives
Provides strategic planning, program development, technology evaluation, and coordination of IT systems to support business goals
Ensures department meets budget. Develops the coming year's capital and operating budgets
Maintains and shares an up-to-date awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies and exploring those that would benefit our web businesses. Provides leadership in awareness, exploration, and implementation of publishing specific technologies
Prioritizes budgets within financial framework, legal considerations, and budget constraints
Anticipates technology needs before the business recognizes the needs. Works to make technology a value add for the business. Helps employees to use technology to bolster value to clients in a proactive way
Supervises recruitment, training, retention, and organization of all technical staff
Participates as a member of the senior management team in establishing processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved
Participates actively in developing business strategy
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related discipline; MA or MBA preferred
10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience in a publishing/media company is a MUST
Experience working with online content management and the delivery of digital products. Demonstrated success in leveraging technology to meet business objectives. Proven experience delivering software development projects on time and on budget. Leader with outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills; ability to motivate people and manage resources effectively and work with business partners to achieve goals. Business acumen, knowledge, professionalism - understand all aspects of how the business operates, able to develop and articulate the value proposition of a new process or program. Proven track record of successfully implementing revenue generating online products. Ability to build the right team, focus people and model integrity. Results-oriented individual with strong facilitation and negotiation skills.
A problem solver; an individual that can quickly assess a situation from multiple dimensions, understand and integrate competing needs and develop creative solutions. Skill in budget preparation and management. Ability to function in a collaborative environment; sensitivity to others; high integrity and intelligence; excellent judgment. Ability to adapt to and remain effective in a changing environment.
