Compensation:
$60K - $80K / Year
Minimum Education:
Bachelors
Job Type:
Full Time
Jobcode:
HBAJA1

Data analyst (mostly cat data). This would involve reviewing the large amount of data (largest client sends us files with 12 million records) submitted by clients in various forms (txt, csv, mdb, etc.), verifying it, summarizing it, writing a Data Quality Assessment Report (“DQAR”), correcting inaccurate or incomplete data, and running queries against the database (probably in SQL or Access). There would also be special projects, creating exposure maps, answering client inquiries. I wouldn’t expect this person to travel very much – an occasional trip to a client to work out data related issues (as the person grew in the job, there may be more travel if warranted). The data, once it is cleaned up, typically feeds our cat models. I would hope this person can help us manage some of the large output from the cat models as well.

As to skill set, I’m looking for someone who has maybe 3 years insurance experience, good with numbers, detailed oriented and has enough people skills to talk to people at our clients (actuaries, data analysts and programmers) about their cat data. Experience with SQL/Access, Excel and Mapinfo a big plus (maybe a requirement). This isn’t an actuarial track, but might work for someone with a few exams, but who has decided taking the rest of the exams isn’t in his/her future.

The person would report to me and be part of our 8+ person department. The part-time person would continue to work part-time (but at much reduced levels) on one-off projects and during peak/crunch times (e.g., SRQs). This person would be part of the data management/analysis group of 3.5 people – joining the part-timer, a person who manages our databases and a person who is part-data analyst and part-cat modeler.
