Senior technologist Responsible for analysis, design, development and Implementation of web-based (java) business process management software for a fixed income , investment management business, with prior experience in web-based systems development and business process improvement. 

Responsibilities/Duties: 

§ Understanding the business processes, participating in process modeling and design workshops, identifying opportunities for process improvement in working with process analysts and the business users. 

§ Effectively communicating technical or non-technical issues with the business users. 
§ Modeling business components, services, processes, and systems. Understand design patterns, and their applicability. Create and maintain common components and services using a layered architecture that will be used by several projects. 
§ Using Lombardi Teamworks (BPMS) to implement the process models using web based application development techniques. 
§ Implementing web-services or JMS based integrations with BPM and other systems using the ESB (Enterprise Service Bus). 
§ Contributing to design sessions, coding, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, supporting beta testing, bug fixes and documentation in support of new BPM integration initiatives and related projects and promoting common standards and best practices. 

§ Provide production support, evaluate and trouble shoot Java code and system failures and discrepancies. Analyze performance and design inefficiencies. 

Competencies: 

Specific Technical Knowledge and Experience Required: 

§ Strong Java & J2EE programming skills with web based application development experience (JSP, Servlets, XML, AJAX, Style Sheets (CSS), XPath, XQuery, HTML and JavaScript). 
§ Experience with Spring, Struts and Tiles frameworks. 
§ JMS and Web Services based development and systems integration experience. 
§ Strong database skills, including Oracle PL/SQL, SQL, stored procedures. 
§ Strong understanding of agile software development methodology; background in object oriented design and analysis. 
§ Experience in BPM technologies such as Lombardi, BEA ALBPM, Savvion and Pega. 

Technical Knowledge and Experience Desired: 
Understanding of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). 
Financial industry experience, especially in Fixed Income. 
Prior business process re-engineering, process improvement experience and exposure to LEAN, Six Sigma process improvement methodologies. 

Qualifications (minimum requirements): 

College degree in Computing Science or Engineering required. Certifications highly desired. 

Minimum 5 years of experience developing enterprise software with Java based Web Development.

Create/maintain kickstart environment for dynamic/reproducible system images. 
Scripting Skills: Perl/bash. Some java script. Python knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities to include: 

Architects Linux based solutions to business needs and requirements. Designs the environment, hardware specifications, and software layers to provide for a reliable, scalable, secure and highly available Linux Systems Environment. 
Ability to find gaps in the Linux Environment and to offer a solution. To implement this solution with scripts (Perl/bash). Write scripts for task automation, resource monitoring and performance monitoring. 
Works closely with teams of developers, Engineers and Operations to make appropriate infrastructure recommendations based on applications needs. 
Develops and maintains documentation related to the design, installation, administration, and maintenance of multiple Linux systems in a distributed computing environment. 
Manages system performance, makes recommendations to improve and implement system wide changes to enhance overall system proficiency. 
Responsible for designing and maintaining a reliable, scalable, secure and high availability Linux systems environment. 
Support offsite disaster recovery efforts by participating in routine disaster recovery tests. 
Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. 
Ensure stability, viability and maintenance of the 24/7 mission-critical production environment. 
Work with project managers and technical staff in defining and documenting technical project requirements 
Ensure systems adhere to IT security policies 
Designs and maintains a repeatable, documented patch deployment methodology for administrators to implement. 
Interface with hardware and software support vendors

Contract to Hire 

Essential Functions of the Position: 
• Prepares internal accounting memoranda and position papers for applicable GAAP and SSAP 
• Prepares financial statements, schedules and reports to parent company for SEC filings 
• Prepares financial statements, schedules and reports for statutory filings 
• Prepares financial models and analyses for management forecasts and projections 
• Performs periodic assessment of accounting team’s application of GAAP and SSAP 
• Performs review of risk transfer documentation for company’s assumed and ceded reinsurance 
• May assist in planning of closing schedules and other key accounting cycles 
• Participates and contributes to ad-hoc special projects upon request. 
Position Requirements: 
Experience: 
Minimum 3 years public accounting, preferably with Big 4 firm 
Or 5 years financial reporting (GAAP) experience in an insurance or reinsurance industry company 
Insurance/Reinsurance industry experience a big plus 

Education: 
BS or BA degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration 
CPA strongly preferred 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
• Demonstrated experience and successful application of generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and concepts 
• Familiar with statutory accounting principles (“SSAP”) 
• Ability to interpret and stay abreast of changing GAAP and SEC reporting requirements 
• Demonstrated ability to review and interpret reinsurance contract language as it applies to review of risk transfer 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Strong leadership skills 
• Ability to multi-task 
• Motivated, self starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
