- focus on developing new business opportunities within the direct A&H sector in the U.S. In addition to new business development, this individual will oversee the business flow and activities related to the start-up of the new book of business, ensuring the business coming into the organization fits within the defined criteria. He/She, in coordination with the organization team, will determine the appropriate product mix for the new business.
-The position will plan and execute business development and relationship management activities that establishes the organization’s competitive position within the direct A&H sector and generates a flow of quality business into the relevant A&H underwriting teams; to raise awareness of the organization in markets that present significant opportunity; to target and develop active fruitful relationships with select retail and wholesale brokers; and to ensure that the organization presents itself as a professional, quality organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-To work with the A&H team in the U.S. and internationally, and relevant underwriters to develop product-specific business development plans for each product line and market, segmenting, detailing and evaluating potential insureds (prospects), and executing such plan to ensure that the organization generates targeted levels of growth and ‘hit’ ratios.
-To develop relationships with, and work closely with relevant wholesale and retail brokers who are active in the target market, to ensure that there is a broad awareness of the organizations’ target prospects and that the organizations’ underwriters get the best possible opportunity to win this business.
-This is a team organization and in that context this individual, although operating very independently, must communicate actively and effectively on an internal and external basis around the business, strategy and marketplace.
-To participate in conferences and events that increase the organizations’ exposure of its key products to its target markets.
-This is a heavy relationship development position, a very hands-on/roll up the shirtsleeves, responsibility. Through knowledge and technical expertise, the incumbent will work closely with broker relationships helping them assess risks, expand their accounts and create a dependency on the organization as their “technical experts”.
-Comply with relevant company, regulatory and legal requirements.
-Advise, assist and service clients on insurance and risk matters to ensure clients satisfaction.
-Foster proactively positive relationships with clients in order to get a mutual understanding of their needs
Skills & Requirements:
-Entrepreneurial professional who shares the high-level standards and characteristics of the organization.
-A hands-on approach to business development.
-Self-motivated, self directed and confident in the blended set of product knowledge within the A&H marketplace.
-Experience in the A&H arena - fluent in a range of products.
-Experienced business development executive with an established track record for developing profitable A&H business within the US market.
-Demonstrated background in the business of understanding and placing risk, from a technical underwriting perspective.
-Strong marketing and analytical capability/experience, ideally including 8-10 years of field development experience (Broker, Wholesaler, MGA, Carrier).
-Strong personal leadership gained within a business development environment, with the ability to be able to lead and motivate a professional business development team.
-Bachelors Degree
