Must have Hands On Experience within a large scale network, they can come out of a datacenter network or carrier network. Candidates they have a well rounded background. You don’t need to be only Cisco; they can have a mix. Candidates must have design experience on both L2/ L3 network Design although they will dabble all the way up to L7. OLUS programming and or scripting skills in either in Shell or Perl. You will have a day of 80% Design/ Networking the rest, programming and anything else.
Responsibilities
* Maintain the high availability and performance of distributed networks.
* Assist with design, develop, and deploy appropriate network solutions as requested.
* Assist with identifying, testing and developing new network technologies collaboratively that increase value for the business.
* Proactively identify technology gaps and develop and implement appropriate solutions collaboratively.
* Proactively ensure that the entrusted networks operate optimally.
Requires tracking everything from bandwidth and cpu to licenses and processes.
* Work closely with network operations, systems and other groups on business projects, assignments, problems, etc. Maintain excellent relationships.
* Create formal guidelines, policies and procedures related to ensuring the smooth and error-free operations of the entrusted networks.
* Provide weekly reports of network activities using the reporting systems.
* Rapid troubleshooting and repair of network related issues.
* Create and maintain clear and accurate network documentation.
* Ensure network and processes conform to approved standards.
* Stay familiar with relevant current and future technologies and trends.
Qualifications:
* 7+ years of hands-on network development experience on an advanced network.
* Extensive hands-on experience with large L3/L2 network design and
development.
* Extensive hands-on experience with IOS, JunOS and hardware.
* Extensive knowledge of routing and switching concepts and technology.
* Extensive hands-on knowledge and experience with BGP, OSPF, IGMP, PIM & RSTP/MSTP.
* Extensive knowledge of MPBGP, MPLS, VPLS, BGP/MPLS IPVPN.
* Extensive knowledge and experience with L4-L7 services such as load balancers.
* Extensive knowledge of QoS and queueing theory.
* Extensive knowledge of advanced networking trends.
* Excellent and rapid network troubleshooting and repair skills.
* Excellent knowledge and experience with network security.
* Significant documentation skills. Mostly Visio schematics.
* Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with NOCs, systems software developers and administrators.
* Significant programming experience with Perl.
* Very good knowledge and experience with network management apps such as: Openview, Smarts or other major products.
* Very good experience with all areas of network management (FCAPS).
* Good knowledge and experience with SNMP & RADIUS.
* Holistic perspective and approach to network design and development.
* Strong unix knowledge and experience (Solaris, Linux mostly).
* Strong sense of organization and obsessive attention to detail.
* Self starter, independent worker and enthusiastic team player.
* Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
* Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
* Responsible, reliable and flexible.
* Professional and ethical conduct.
* HANDS ON.
*Education: BS/MS (CS/EE preferred), advanced degree is a big plus.
