Responsible for the development Analytics/Risk Management business line- applications related to benchmark indices. 

Acting as a technical subject matter expert, the individual will be responsible for the design, development, programming and testing of systems and interfaces related to daily market data / risk processes used to support the on-going operations of the business.

As the lead developer for the tactical and support team, this individual will be relied upon to provide insight into production issues while also recommending future enhancements and bug fixes as necessary.  They will provide direction and mentoring to other team members, and work to ensure all team member deliverables are of a quality nature.  They will provide direction to ensure good design decisions are made, considering ongoing support and maintenance as well as user needs. This individual will support the activities of the Project Manager by creating and maintaining custom reports and programs, and by providing technical support for system and software issues.  Programs supported range from above average complexity to very complex. 

 


Competencies:


Specific Technical Knowledge and Experience Required:

§         More than five years of Sybase development experience and an expert in database management theory and practice.   Superior knowledge of Java/Swing, J2EE, EJB w/Session Beans, Jconnect, Weblogic

§         Superior knowledge of relational database environments, including Sybase  

§         Knowledge of UNIX environment, Solaris preferred.

§         Knowledge of Client-server and web (thin client) concepts, (3 tier architecture concepts preferred), and GUI development concepts required.

 

Specific Business Knowledge and Experience Required:

§         Has business and technical knowledge of investment processes.  Uses solid business knowledge to develop rapid proactive solutions for significant business issues.  Clearly understands purposes, objectives, practices, and procedures of the department and business units.

§         Maintains a solid knowledge of corporate and departmental information system strategies.

§         Demonstrates proficiency in systems analysis of business requirements.

§         Has advanced written and oral communication skills to make technical or non-technical material understandable to the business units, to make presentations to management and other personnel, and to conduct meetings and training sessions.

§         Knowledge with systems that manage data and data exchange between multiple sources.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:


§         Activities include but are not limited to: design sessions/documentation, coding, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, supporting beta testing, bug fixes and documentation.  

§         Works with business partners and systems personnel to identify and develop new processes and/or systems, change current processes to enhance their effectiveness, or eliminate processes that are not justified.

§         Works with team members to coordinate computer system changes and development processes. Communicates system changes and processes to appropriate personnel, documenting any processes as necessary.

§         Trouble shoots system failures and discrepancies.  Recovery solutions are evaluated, selected and implemented, and measures to identify or avert future recurrences are developed.  Communicates discrepancies determined in testing to impacted areas and monitors resolution.

§         Designs and tests systems and/or systems changes accurately to insure system efficiency, integrity, productivity and maintainability.

§         Sets appropriate goals and priorities that coordinate with the business areas and other organizational units and resources.

§         Mentors more junior team member on the scope of A/RM system functionality, company procedures/methods, and technology, coding and design techniques.

 


 


Academic Qualifications (minimum requirements):

Job Description:

Sr. UNIX Administrator - Participate in the development of open systems architecture and strategy across a very large multi-vendor platform environment. Vendor technology includes the latest hardware and software Solution platforms from HP, IBM, EMC, etc.  Responsible for installing and managing Linux  (RedHat, SUSE, et cetera) and HP-UX systems.  Implement High Availability solutions for Linux and HP-UX systems. Manage Web servers on the LINUX platform. We require:  a minimum 3 years of LINUX experience and 10 to 12 years prior work experience in data processing.  Need to have an in-depth, detailed knowledge of Linux and UNIX (HP-UX preferred) Operating systems internals and systems administration in a medium-to-large UNIX environment; strong documentation skills; hands-on experience and knowledge of current UNIX server architecture, EMC, and components, performance tuning, PERL and Korn/Bourne shell scripting. Knowledge of current Open source technologies, Apache and Tomcat is needed. Experience with Web technologies, CVS, LDAP, JBOSS, SSL certificates, reverse proxy architectures and security practices is needed. Exposure to databases (Sybase, Oracle, MySQL) is desirable. A working knowledge of LAN/WAN network interfaces, current technology and design techniques, excellent Open Server hardware and software diagnostic skills which will be applied to the Open Systems environment, and good electrical safety skills working within a data center are also required. Hours: 9:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday.  Must be able to drive to Data Center, located in Lyndhurst, NJ and be on call when not on scheduled absence.  Frequent off-hours work due to the 24x7 nature of the NJDC service-level requirements.  Periodic attendance of meeting at New York City locations is required.
