This role offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled architect to gain a broad appreciation of the investment banking business. 

There is also an element of application portfolio governance and standards setting and enforcement, together with an opportunity to work with/sit on firm-wide governance boards. 

Responsibilities include: 
• Work with senior management to identify critical technology investments 
• Partner with top 5-10% of projects, engaging with them during the inception and elaboration phases, or early agile process stages 
• Engage the technology leads in “pair architecture” to review and improve proposed designs 
• Produce documentary assessments of the state of critical investments 
• Organize, prioritize, plan the engagements and communicate status with management 
• Ensure firm-wide standards, conventions and policies are made known to projects, and help expedite their incorporation 

• Provide cross-fertilization of ideas across the application portfolio by forming close working relationship with technical leads across the division 
• Identify opportunities for step-change improvement based on your experience and insights; advise management on a course of action 
• Deliver communication regarding the quality of the application portfolio 
• Participate in application portfolio management (buy/hold/sell strategy and inventory) 
• Reviews target business architecture, the fit with the technical architecture and make recommendations 

Product Leadership: 
• Keeps up to date with the business environment 
• Provides expert knowledge of application architecture, and consults to Business, Operations and Technology teams 

Continuous Improvement: 

• Contributes to continuous improvement 

• Proactively supports knowledge sharing within the division 

• Encourages re-use of services; surfaces opportunities 

Skill Requirements: 

• Experience in delivering application and/or functional architectures 

• Experience of having performed architecture / permit to build / governance function is highly desirable 
• Knowledge of equity derivatives and/or cash equities is desirable 
• A broad, high-level understanding of distributed application development across Unix/Windows, Java/C++/C#, and databases 
• Knowledge of at least one of E-R, UML or XML Schema modeling is desirable 
• An understanding of the issues in delivering global systems, large scale applications 
• Knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, or other application taxonomy is desirable 
• Experience of working across more than one banking business is desirable 
• Interest in working with developers of modern distributed systems. 
• Well organized, structured thinker 
• Good written and verbal communication skills; both 1-1 and small groups. 
• Good interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to “sell” ideas 
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite or similar. 
• College degree, specialized training, or equivalent work experience 

• In addition typically 7+ years of relevant work experience 
• Experience or understanding of architecture methods and tools 
• Familiarity with/understanding of a substantial part of the Investment Banking Industry platforms and technologies is useful, but not key
