Assists Senior Vice President & Chief Legal Officer in the management of the Insurance claims operation.
Management of all claims-related operations, functions, and activities including the direction and administration of claims handling and organization, claim personnel, training and development, inter-departmental / inter-group relations, cost effective and timely mitigation and resolution of claims, control of expenses, and efficient systems, protocols, and procedures.
Control and enforce department policies and procedures.
Comply with the mission and policies of the company.
Supervise the technical claims staff (Claim Analysts/Examiners) and management of non-program property and casualty claims.
Manage run-off claims and programs

Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Direct and supervise Insurance staff.
2. Work closely with, train and develop young and inexperienced staff members.
3. Manage work activates, performance, and development.
4. Perform internal and external claim audits.
5. Review, edit, and approve Claims Analysts’ coverage letters, reservations of rights letters, and Major Claim Notices.
6. Review and approve Claims Analysts’ reserve changes and payments, which exceed their authority level.
7. Participate in claim committee discussions involving major claims and coverage issues.
8. Train and advise Claims Analysts.
9. Conduct monthly quality control reviews of staff.
10. Review the performance and billing practices of attorneys and adjusters.
11. Liaise with Reinsurance and Collections units to facilitate reinsurance recoveries.
12. Attend mediations and trials when essential.
13. Actively carry and manage specific major claims when expertise is vital and/or any other claims/matters as deemed so by the Senior Vice President & Chief Legal Officer.
14. Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and respond to specific insurance department complaints and inquiries, statutes pertaining to claims.
15. Assist legal and underwriting departments when required.
16. Manage audits, claims handling, and adherence to the International Platform.

Qualifications
1. College degree (law degree or graduate degree is a plus).
2. Broad multi-line insurance background with at least 15 years experience in primary and excess claims, with a minimum of 3 years of management experience.
3. Strong knowledge of reinsurance.
4. High-level expertise in primary, excess, and reinsurance coverage, legal issues, litigation, and claim management.
5. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
6. Proficiency in use of computers and corporate systems, including office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
7. Ability to develop and implement new computerized and manual systems.
8. Excellent skills in analysis, problem solving, and conflict management.
9. Ability to travel for business purposes including trials, mediations, industry meetings, etc.
10. Professional appearance and demeanor with the ability to interact professionally with clients, network partners, brokers, attorneys, and industry experts.
