Description:    This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. Its main responsibility is to issue US liability, property and package insurance policies in the context of Canadian programs. The position entails evaluation of the US part of the risks and the determination of the premium commensurate with the exposure, in compliance with local regulation, corporate underwriting guidelines. The individual who occupies this position will share exposure evaluation and premium elements with the Canadian Underwriter in order for the Canadian Underwriter to include these elements in his/her negotiation with the Canadian Client. This position will need to constantly understand the market dynamics, review and respond to submissions (structure and price) within agreed to time frames and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders involved, including: Canadian Underwriters, and Arthur J. Gallagher, San Francisco Office (selected broker for Canadian business). 

Major Activities 
• Evaluate the US part of the risks and the relevant premium calculation parameter, consistently with local regulatory requirements, casualty and property underwriting guidelines and service standards. 
• Analyze Property and Casualty exposures as presented in submissions, including loss runs. Communicate above mentioned US related elements with the Canadian Underwriter to enable Canadian Underwriter to integrate them into his/her discussion and negotiations with the Canadian clients/brokers. 
• Issue US policies within agreed to time frames consistently with instructions ultimately received from Canadian Underwriters and binders issued locally. 
• Maintain underwriting files in good order, including issuing policies, quote letters and binders correctly in accordance with the agreed upon conditions as well as invoicing and calculating fees, surcharges and tax. 
• Develop and maintain good and regular communication and relationships with the various stakeholders, including Canadian Underwriters and dedicated broker for Canadian business (Arthur J. Gallagher) with whom the company can produce prospects as outlined above. 
• Cooperate with Business Support with regard to: 
o PQM objectives in term of policy issuance. 
o Deployment of new technologies to increase department productivity. 
o Prepare, distribute and explain variances regarding Service Level report. 
o Communicate action plan to rectify any Service Level issues to all stakeholders. 
• Maintain up to date knowledge about regulation. 
• Cooperate with Finance on premium collection matters as per escalation procedure in place. 
• Provide testimony in the context of disputes; seek claims examiner feedback to improve policy wording quality. 
• Refer all issues which are not covered above to the Chief Operating Officer. 


Knowledge of: 
• Ability to effectively quote with ISO at expert level. 
• Ability to identify and quantify exposures that may produce losses under Domestic policies and accurately translate it in the ISO pricing sheet in accordance with the global rate from the Canadian Underwriter. 
• In-depth understanding of domestic ISO Property and Casualty policy wordings and endorsements, including the different variations and the affect of different wordings on different exposures. 
• Ability to analyze manuscript and/or international wordings and adapt local coverages and best local standards to avoid difference in conditions or difference in limits on the local policy in the USA compared to the Canadian wording. 
• Ability to analyze a corporation’s financial statements and other publicly available information and predict long term future results for that company. 
• Good public speaking and presentation skills. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. 
• Experience with Property and Casualty Rating software. 
• Internet search mechanisms and functions. 
• Excellent customer service skills and sense of urgency.
