• The Director will ensure career path planning is undertaken at each operating site and Technical Offices. Career path planning will be undertaken for all geotechnical engineers from 106 grade level and higher. This will include working with all operating sites to facilitate inter site transfer of staff when appropriate. Additionally, any high potential employees below grade level 106 should be catered for.
• Additional to Career Path Planning, a mentoring program will be established to ensure young geotechnical engineers have a sounding board to older engineers in the corporation.
• Work with operating sites to determine and set geotechnical engineering standard process. This may include only process but may advance to a more prescriptive statement on software, or brand use. Only appropriate processes will be standardized but processes should be reviewed for appropriateness for standardization and relevance,
• Work with operating sites to define and setup a review mechanism of the Ground Control plan to assess risk,
• Supply geotechnical engineering support to existing mine sites on an impromptu pull fashion.
• Setting of Geotechnical Engineering process for new mine sites is a duty of this position. This engineering process should follow previously set standards unless changes to process show significant impact.
• The Director will budget sufficient staff to support Pipeline projects or Stage Gates, Exploration target analysis, site support, and M&A initiatives.
• Support of corporate initiatives will be supplied as needed. Currently support will be supplied to Business Planning, CEP, AFE reviews, Operations Excellence.
• The Director will ensure adequate affiliation exists with Geotechnical Engineering consultants to ensure a backup supply of skilled Geotechnical Engineers for peak loads.
• The Director will establish a database of potential employees, keep contacts fresh and recruit if need be,

The minimum requirements for the job are:
• In excess of 15 years of experience in surface and underground mining,
• B.Sc. Mining/Geotechnical or Geological Engineering,
• Experience in operations as Superintendent Geotechnical Engineer with groups of at least 5 professional staff,
• Overseas work experience in 1st, 2nd and 3rd world countries,
• Startup experience,
• Extensive mine planning experience in complex multi mine, multi process situations,
• First hand experience water management in jungle, mountainous environments,
• Expert knowledge of ground control plans,
• Expert knowledge of geotechnical methods,
• First hand site experience dealing with major geotechnical failures,
• Experience in Project Evaluation at the Feasibility to ongoing operations stages,
• Well networked into industry specialists and consultants.
• Familiarity with business systems and standard office application software.

Candidate Must Have :
* B.Sc. Mining/Geotechnical or Geological Engineering
* 15 years of experience in surface and underground mining
* Performance of the work requires travel (30-50% of work time) to domestic and international operations. Travel can be at a moments notice to overseas or domestic locations
* Overseas work experience in 1st, 2nd and 3rd world countries
* Startup experience
