POSITION PURPOSE:

The Technical Operations Manager will manage, lead and mentor a team that consists of (4) Systems Administrators, (2) Network and (1) Desktop support staff.  The ideal candidate has management experience and thrives in a fast-paced, start-up environment

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Management of the Systems administration and Desktop support teams
• Day to day UNIX/Linux/Windows support
• Development of scripts and programs to support business requirements
• Monitoring of operational environment to insure agreed upon service levels are being maintained
• Work with 3 party organizations on the configuration and support of large scale Web and database applications and to insure Service level agreements are maintained  
• Develop disaster recovery plans and associated backup strategies
• Provide management with operational metrics across environments
• Provide first line support for Enterprise applications.
• Maintain documentation of environment and associated components (Servers / Networks /Programs / Scripts etc..)  
• Develop and execute project plans

 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

• Excellent communication skills both with technical staff and Business clients
• Experience in working with 3^rd party vendors to provide cost efficiencies  ( this includes contract negotiation and monitoring , development of appropriate SLAs etc..)
• Ability to work on multiple tasks in a team environment.
• Ability to adapt to change in priorities
• Ability to motivate, plan and monitor work of team
• Experience in running all aspects of large scale data centers across multiple sites.
• Experience in supporting large, public facing 24x47 Web applications 
• Strong technical knowledge of Linux  and Networking (WAN /LAN )
• Hands on configuration knowledge for Linux ,  Cisco etc..
• Linux OS Administration skills
• Knowledge of Web servers (Apache, IIS) and Application Servers (Tomcat WebSphere, JBoss)
• Knowledge of Oracle databases and their operational requirements
• Knowledge of performance monitoring techniques and tools etc..

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

• At least (5) years experience in Systems Administration in a Unix/Linux environment
• At least (3) years experience managing a team and projects
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

Excel Development (min. 3-5 Years)
Experience working with excel in a trading/risk management spreadsheet
Needs experience with trade loading, valuation market creation; pricing sheet experience would be acceptable
Good communication skills, good problem solving skills
Some Business knowledge - knows Yield curves and how to price a basic interest rate swap

 

Application Developer (min. 3-5 years)
Some Business Knowledge
Experience/knowledge of risk management systems
Only C#, .Net experience. Candidates with only Java or Unix is unacceptable.
Great IT skills (C#, .Net) can make up for some other short falls in business knowledge, risk mgmt experience, etc
Experience working with big, source code based systems - not just small applications.
Should have experience working with other's code, not just their own.

 

Implementation Role (min. 3-5 years)
Interest Rate Derivative Knowledge
Experience/knowledge of risk management systems (pricing and valuation of derivative products)
Good communication skills required (will interact with FO traders, Product Controllers, risk managers, and IT developers in NY, LDN and Asia)
IT knowledge/experience - will need to assist in xml configuration, working thru issues in complex VBA/Excel spreadsheets (debugging, rather than coding); querying databases, interacting with developers (explaining issues, working thru software set up, and testing); assisting with the release of software; scripting knowledge preferred
Superior Problem solving skills
Job will also include: support of Front Office traders, system testing (for new functionality on in house built software), gathering and documenting user requirements; assisting in the documentation of testing and release plans; understanding and the ability to problem solve data quality; valuation and trade entry issues.
