This educational non-profit is looking for a leader who is not simply a technologist but has a passion about the idea of "giving back."
This position will lead a small team of software developers using a variety of application development methodologies, and will work very closely with business stakeholders, business analysts and project managers. This position reports to the Vice President, Application Development.
Competencies:
8+ years experience developing increasingly complex and sophisticated software, of which 4 years were at the senior/architect level
Experience architecting complex large scale systems incorporating packaged and custom applications
5-7 years experience in core Java and J2EE custom-software development
5+ years managing and mentoring team of direct reports
Experience with test-driven development, Agile software development, preferably XP, and customer-centric software development practices
· Strong Struts, Spring, and Webflow 1/2 and object/relationship modeling experience (Torque, Hibernate, IBATIS, etc.)
Strong knowledge of Design Patterns and UML
Excellent knowledge in Object Oriented analysis, design and programming
Ability to plan technical architecture and develop documentation
Experience with ORM framework with PostGres, MS SQL or other Relational Database backend a strong plus.
· Experience developing in Linux, Apache, Tomcat
· Strong experience with unit testing technologies (Junit, HttpUnit, etc)
· Experience in JSF (e.g. JBoss RichFaces)
· Experience with JavaScript, including AJAX and JSON (Dojo a plus)
Plusses
· Experience in Visual Basic and other Microsoft-centric languages
· Background in DB2 or Oracle
· Experience with JSR 168/286 and WebSphere Portal
· Experience with Perl or other scripting languages
· Experience in Websphere
Responsibilities
Architect and develop scalable applications in a dynamic environment, using Java, Struts, and Spring Framework.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects, and to coordinate the work of others.
Lead Architectural initiatives and develop architectural methodology and specifications
Expected to lead a small team of developers throughout an entire software development cycle
Act as a role model and advocate for software development best practices in the larger team setting.
Mentoring team members and users in software engineering and architectural best practices
Managing team of developers
Additional knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Detail-oriented, organized, and possess good writing and communication skills
Ability to operate effectively, and with a sense of possibility, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Excellent mentor and coach
Brainbench or Sun certified on JAVA platform preferred
