DEPT:  JRIA Global Production Management

TITLE:  Senior UNIX Systems Administrator

 

EXPERIENCE:  Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least three (3), but typically five (5) or more years experience in systems administration and computer operations, with increasing administrative and leadership responsibilities or an equivalent in education and work experience.  Individual is expected to have proven knowledge and experience in computer operations,  systems administration, time-critical decision-making, strong judgment, management skills and a considerable aptitude in human relations.

 

SKILLS:  Critical Skills:  Five (5) plus years of UNIX (AIX, SLES, Redhat, HP-UX, Tru64 or Solaris) and OpenVMS experience in a data center

environment.   Storage device configuration preferably using a Storage Area

Network.  Use of scripting languages (PERL, DCL, Korn Shell) to automate complex tasks.  Ability to work unsupervised on time-critical tasks, escalating to backline support when needed.  Ability to independently work projects to completion while providing updates to peers.  Recommended

Skills:  Support of Money Transfer applications (CHIPS, Swift).

Installation, support and troubleshooting of MQSeries software on multiple platforms.  Experience with disaster recovery exercises, including failover scripts.  Support of an Enterprise Monitoring System (SMARTS, OpenView, Insight Manager).  Documentation of Systems and Storage Area networks, including conversion of configuration data into Excel, databases and Visio.

Use of performance graphing and management software such as BigBrother, T4, TLViz, PerfMon and CA Performance Advisor.  Knowledge of Web development (HTML, CGI, Javascript, PHP, Perl).  Experience with administration of Tivoli Storage Manager or other enterprise backup software.  Experience with SAN management (EMC Control Center, HP Command View, Storage Essentials, SSSU, and SYMCLI).  Experience with managing servers in a virtual environment (VMware ESX, AIX VIO).  Experience providing technical guidance to the operations and helpdesk staff.  Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and best practices.

DESCRIPTION:   This position is a traditional systems administration

position in a financial datacenter environment.  All aspects of support of UNIX (multiple vendors) and OpenVMS systems is required, along with the applications that run on those systems.  This position will also provide host-side support and troubleshooting for HP and EMC SAN Disk Arrays and Cisco SAN switches.  This position will provide support from our Jersey City, NJ and Dutchess County, NY datacenters, in addition to some off-hours telecommuting support.  Specific Responsibilities:  Prepares installs, implements and debugs UNIX and OpenVMS operating software and associated components.  Develops and implement test plans for implementing new software or new releases of software, including off-hours work as required.

Applies corrective and proactive patches to systems and application software as required.  Uses internal workflow tools to coordinate with peers and inform developers and business analysts of software and hardware upgrades.  Tunes system software for peak performance and availability, making recommendations for changes and upgrades as needed.  Assists Developers with high level problem program debugging and correction.

Responds to calls assigned by helpdesk  for areas of expertise.  Provides off-shift on-call support for assigned systems and applications.

Cross-trains other staff as needed on supported systems and applications.

Supports backup operations using TSM and Storage Area Network Array scripting as required.  Maintains assigned disaster recovery test plans and actively participates in off-hour technology and business recovery activities.  Provides support for hosted 3rd Party Customers in a professional manner.  Stays abreast with technical and operational tools and knowledge required to perform assigned duties.

TITLE: Network Engineer

EXPERIENCE: Technical Requirements: Cisco 2600, 3600, 7500 series
routers. Cisco 4000, 6000 series switches. Cisco 9500 SAN switches.
Routing Protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP. Ciscoworks. Checkpoint
Firewall-1 NG. Real Secure IDS. Nortel Connectivity 2700 VPN.
Websense Internet Content Filter. Visual Networks Probes and Software.
Win 2K, Win 2K3 server. Cisco SAN switches and related equipment. IP
telephony, including end stations, gateways, etc. General Requirements:
Exceptionally strong technical and analytical skills. Proficient in LAN
/ WAN / Internet design as well as implementation skills. Must work
well with others, be customer focused, a team player and have excellent
communication skills. Must be a forward thinker, always looking to
improve existing network situations and provide relevant solutions.
Must have exceptional knowledge of all Cisco hardware and software,
Internet security hardware and software as well as voice / data
integration. Must be willing to work some weekends and late nights to
support upgrades, changes, etc. Must be able to lift large and heavy
packages, usually over 50 lbs. Must be able to work under pressure.
Certification Requirements: CCIE & MCSE preferred, but not required.
Certifications: CCNA, CCDA, CCSA.


DESCRIPTION: General Responsibilities: Responsible for implementation
of
network hardware and software upgrades and rollouts, as well as
day-to-day network operational support. Responsible for ensuring the
improvement of network performance at all North American office
locations. Responsible for ensuring the data integrity for all systems
users by overseeing the monitoring and troubleshooting of the LAN and
WAN systems. Reponsible for overseeing monitoring and troubleshooting
of the LAN / WAN & Internet systems. Implement new network design
solutions or ideas proposed by the Architecture team to increase system
performance, reduce costs or increase productivity for the Business
groups within SMBC. Responsible for the maintenance and daily
operations of many security systems in North America from external
vulnerabilities in accordance with Security Dept. policies.
Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for monitoring the Local and
Wide Area networks for performance problems through the use of probes,
analyzers, and network management software. Responsible for the
escalation of problems through vendor channels to achieve problem
resolution.
Configure and install all new WAN and LAN network equipment.
Participate in network design discussions and participate in the
implementation of WAN and LAN network upgrades and enhancements.
Compile network documentation and ensure its installation in a
centralized database. Responsible for ensuring that all Sumitomo Bank
locations have the proper maintenance coverage for the critical network
hardware and software. Responsible for overseeing the installation and
configuration of all *new* LAN / WAN / Internet hardware and software
based on Architecture Committee and business requirements. Basic SAN
expertise, including but not limited to Cisco MDS environments.
Responsible for implementing or overseeing the implementation of
security configurations on North American routers, Firewall, etc. in
accordance with Security Dept. policies. Responsible for ensuring that
the North American Local and Wide Area networks are monitored for
performance problems through the use of probes, analyzers, and network
management software. Responsible for ensuring vendor escalation
procedures are properly followed to achieve problem resolution.
Responsible for ensuring that business management is kept aware of
proposed network changes to ensure changes do not impact business group
access to systems with the use of internal tracking and alerting
databases, i.e., Change Management, Maintenance Logs, Heat Tickets,
Service Request, and Soar database request.
All done within a timely manner. Provide technical assistance to
several internal departments which includes management when needed,
example, Customer Service Desk, Voice Telcom Group, System
Administrators, Application Support, RMSD, and Bank Subsidiaries.
Overall responsibility for North American capacity planning with respect
to network infrastructure (i.e., Cabinets, power, cabling, etc.)
Provide technical assistance and support to Business Recovery planning
and testing. Responsible for ensuring that network documentation is
accurate, complete, and posted in a centralized database. Responsible
for providing technical guidance to less-Senior engineers and help
enhance their knowledge to sufficiently implement their designated
tasks.
