SQL server programmer/administrator NYC

Description: A successful equity and options trading firm located in New York City is seeking a SQL Server programmer/administrator. The ideal candidate will have the experience and commitment to fulfill this dual role proactively, demonstrating a willingness to take on responsibilities and an ability to learn. Minimum experience: 3+ years full-time in SQL2005, SQL2008. Responsibilities include: 
- Database documentation 
- Stored procedure development 
-Database schema design 
- Query Optimization 
-Day-to-day SQL Server administration (performance monitoring, backup/availability management, tuning, security, software upgrades, etc...) 
- Report generation 
-Knowledge of SSIS and C#.NET (for CLR function design), an understanding of financial market are a plus. 
- Work with development teams to ensure successful release of products and updates. 
- Manage database security. 
- Work with IT team to verify backups, monitor storage capacity, monitor system performance, and test disaster recovery scenarios. 

Qualitative Skill Requirements 
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with project teams, business owners, senior management. 
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or equivalent.

Description: Work with our advisory services group to help business determine needs. This also means “helping them understand” industry trends and how they need to prepare for future analytical requirements. This means the person should be up on the use of analytical solutions in various business areas 

Work with senior IT members (CIOs, Chief Architects, etc.) to determine infrastructure needs and technology directions in order to better meet their business present as well as future analytical/informational needs 

Lead architectural and development teams in building and designing new solutions. The person should be able to provide mentorship and leadership to both our as well as our client’s technology teams. 

Develop tools, process, and technologies to allow us to grow our staff and revenue base without the need of high-end resources. The person will also be responsible for developing and publishing white-papers and article on data architectural trends and directions. 

Conduct short-term assessments (6-8 week exercises) of a client’s current solutions and recommend short-term and long-term changes to meet both their present as well as future analytical needs. This would include looking at people, processes, and technology in an end to end manner (from source system to information delivery to the end customer) 

Technology Knowledge 
Candidate should be able to talk about the architectural and basic functional differences between the following: 

ETL Tools Ab Inito, Datastage, Informatica 

Databases RDBMS, Columnar, DB Appliance Hadoop 

Data Visualization Tools Cognos, BO, Qlikview, Tableau 

Candidate should be familiar with Big Data technology (not an expert but basic familiarity) and be able to talk about when he/she would recommend a traditional RDBMS over a Big Data over a database appliance.

Must be willing to work on-site in their western Rockland County, New York office. 

Duties: 
Responsibilities include the following: 

Development of custom Web-based applications with database back end for customers. 
Development of Web-based software for internal projects. 
Co-operation with other Web development team members (e.g. Project manager, Web programmers, graphic designers, and authors, quality assurance) in the production of a finished product. 
Ability to work on project without detailed instructions; taking the initiative with this job is important. 
On-going maintenance of existing projects. 

Qualifications: 

Excellent knowledge of Object Oriented programming 
Knowledge of PEAR libraries a plus
