Must Have P&C Insurance
Manages a team of internal analysts or developers and/or vendor resources responsible for the development, enhancement, production support and integration of application business systems. This includes integrating policy administration and claim administration systems to finance & information systems and to 3rd party services. Evaluates existing applications to determine technical changes, schedules projects and resources, and monitors project timelines. Sets and implements policies and procedures related to application quality standards and testing.
Specific responsibilities:
• Responsible for technical architecture, design and development of integration software
• Sets coding and development standards
• Responsible for 3rd party services integration
• Ensure that performance and unit tests are done for integration code
• Assess and recommend architectural changes
• Recommend development methodologies
• Implement and plan releases
• Improve time to market and reduce development and QA costs.
• Work with the QA team to implement automated testing and develop a regression test bed
• Work with Vendor selection and RFI/RFPs
• Involved in SOX audits and implementing recommendations from the audit
• Participate in requirements gathering, proof of concept development and creating requirements documents
• Responsible for production support which includes:
• Deployment of releases
• Selecting and implementing tools to monitor usage and performance
• Selecting and implementing tools to monitor scalability issues
• Work with vendors to define and test best hardware and software configurations
• Work to identify and resolve production issues
• Responsible for the implementation of vendor patches and upgrades
• Research new technology and process developments that can be applied in Tower’s projects
• Primary application/technical contact with the vendor
• Build and maintain application/technical relationships with the vendor to help direct future releases
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education
• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or related degree and/or experience
• PMP certification desired
Experience/Skills
• Ideal candidate would have 10 to 15 years of related experience in software development including a broad technical background with extensive integration experience
• Experience working on large complex projects through the entire project life cycle from initiation through implementation
• Solution design experience
• Insurance background including policy, claim, finance or information system experience is a strong plus
• Familiarity with insurance products, rules and methodologies desirable
• Experience with vendor management required
• Experience supporting a production system required
• Policy+
o Experience developing in .Net, C++ or Java.
o Experience with C# (or VB.NET) using Visual Studio
o Experience with Sharepoint MOSS 2007
o Experience in developing website
o Experience with Object Oriented Methodologies
o 3-4 years experience doing custom Java development in a J2EE environment desired
o 3-4 years experience with web services desired
o 2-3 years experience with large packaged software ex. Sungard desired.
o 3-4 years experience with SQL desired
o Experience with a scripting language such as java script, VB script, eScript desired
o Familiarity with XML desired
• Some domestic travel may be required
